A little perspective...

The planet Earth and her Moon, as seen from 31 million miles away. Taken by NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft.

During a full Earth rotation, images obtained by Deep Impact at a 15-minute cadence have been combined to make a color video. During the video, the moon enters the frame (because of its orbital motion) and transits Earth, then leaves the frame. Other spacecraft have imaged Earth and the moon from space, but Deep Impact is the first to show a transit of Earth with enough detail to see large craters on the moon and oceans and continents on Earth.

There's more info and videos on the Deep Impact website... far out!

Remembrance Day

the poppyToday is Remembrance Day here in Canada, and in many other countries around the world.

Every year on November 11, Canadians pause to remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953), as well as those who have served since then.

More than 1,500,000 Canadians have served their country in this way, and more than 100,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we and others may live in peace. Each year, millions of Canadians wear poppies as a symbol that they will never forget, and to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. You can read more about the poppy and its significance to remembering the war dead here.
