The Eagle is not safe to soar.
What kind of sickos are out there? Lately, there has been a surge of poaching going on right here in British Columbia, Canada. Unscrupulous people are killing and mutilating Bald Eagles to sell feathers and talons on the black market.
What a disgusting crime to commit on such a beautiful animal. If you know anyone who collects such grisly trophys, I urge you to ask them to stop!

Astronomy Geek's Dream Vacation
Here in Canada, we have a famous amateur astronomer, Jack Newton, who runs a Bed & Breakfast where he lets guests join him in his observatory for a personally guided tour of the night sky. Located in Osoyoos, British Columbia, this B & B is a unique and rare opportunity to explore the night sky, get some R & R, as well as meet one of the "stars" of amateur astronomy.
What could be a geekier vacation?
From an article in British Columbia Magazine...
"The roof-top observation dome is the centrepiece of the Observatory Bed and Breakfast in Osoyoos. Its large-aperture, computer-controlled telescope is mounted on 12-tonne concrete pier, anchored on bedrock to prevent movement, which extends 10.5 metres up through the house and into the dome. Guests climb the stairs each night to explore the heavens with Newton as their guide..."
Jack Newton's website is here. Be sure to check out his amazing photographs of celestial objects!

Mexican Dinner Recipes!
Tonight, I made a Mexican meal, where I try and make beans and rice like our favorite restaurant....
It turned out pretty good! I made Mexican Rice with black beans, guacamole with blue corn chips. Delicious!
Black Beans:
3 cups veggie broth
1 1/2 Cups black beans
2 cloves chopped garlic
2 tspn chilli powder
1/4 tspn salt
1 tspn chopped hot pepper
a sqeeze of fresh lime juice
Put all ingredients in a saucepan, bring to boil, set to medium low and let simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring every 10 minutes or so. Toss in chopped cilantro before serving.
Rice:
Put in a saucepan:
8oz or so can of diced tomatoes,
1/2 Cup or so water
1 medium chopped carrot
1 Tbs finely chopped hot pepper
1 finely chopped clove garlic
1 tspn chilli powder
1 tbs finely chopped red onion
a squeeze of fresh lime juice
pinch salt
Set it on high, and bring it to boil then add 1 cup white rice. Bring to a boil again, then cover it and simmer, 15 - 20 minutes. Toss 2 tbs chopped cilantro and stir before serving.
Guacamole:
2 ripe avacados
1/4 cup lowfat sour cream
1 tbs finely chopped red onion
2 tbs chopped cilantro
1 tbs chopped hot pepper
1 tbs fresh lime juice
a pinch salt
In a bowl, mash avacados, add sourcream and stir. Add the remaining ingredients.

Hacking the new Powerbook's Motion Sensor!
Ok, now this is really cool. As seen on Gizmodo, programmer Amit Singh patched into the six-axis motion sensor in the new Apple Powerbooks and wrote a program that rotates desktop windows based on the orientation of the laptop. Check out the movie of his Perturbed Desktop!
And this just in... Balooba Software has just released Bubblegym 0.1, a tilt-controlled computer game for the new Apple Powerbook!

Who let the Martha out? Who? who who?
Finally, Martha has been released from prison, and she emerged richer and thinner. Strangely, with all the hype surrounding her release...
... her company's stock went down an astonishing 9.43%! to $30.75. What could this mean? I'm thinking investors liked her in jail better than out. I'll guess we'll see what she's got cookin' in the next few weeks! Can't wait!
