That's why you're Zorro....
That is a good idea. Pretty much what I had in mind with some other really cute girls I know who I'm not that interested in, and weren't sufficiently grateful for the tech support I gave them. Well, okay, one of them is damn hot, but she's a bit of a drinker and may smoke, the other is only hot when blond, smokes, and has a loser of a boyfriend. Unfortunately, this tactic hasn't quite worked, since I haven't seen them in a few months, though the hotter one im'd me for help with her paper, and I made myself a valuable resource by only giving her 5 minutes of my time, stressing all I had to get done. She has told me that I should call her if I need anything - perhaps I should - to learn of other women she may know; I think she may even work with the other girl (the Iverson fan).

Why is it that the cute ones are often unattainable? It would be so nice sometime to meet one that likes you, and doesn't have some major turnoff that you don't learn of until you know them a little better. This is why I really should just find a geekette.

Perhaps you need to redefine your definition of cute.

Why does this offend me? (Don't answer that, Zorro! )

I've answered that before Nayt. Because sex is one of the few great things in life that everyone is interested in. You should try it some time.

Uh, Nayt? The title of this thread is "Ask Zorro (Zorro's Q&A)". Did you really expect it not to be about sex??

Janeway, you're pretty much right, and I'm sorry. I should have phrased the second comment better. What I meant to say is that I'm a stupid idiot, and shouldn't be trying to find the popular image, but rather someone who would understand me, and who I would understand - not that a geekette is anyway lower or in anyway unattractive. I'm sure you've seen a regular guy and probably found him relatively attractive, but if you speak to him, you may find him shallow. Meanwhile, you meet a geek (who's probably perfectly good-looking, but not 'drop-dead gorgeous'), and realize, "Why would I want that loser (regular guy), when I can have this fellow geek, who knows about what I'm interested, and understands why I'm absorbed in it?"

Yeah, you both got it right. I have a more complex version on my riddle page, (a square just touching (at it's edges) the the circle, and a cirlce around the whole thing... so, I was expecting an answer to question I didn't ask, at least not here... But here: www.game-master.org/

Which brings me to a question for Zrro, why doesn't this SWF movie (on the abov epage) load with Netscape 4.x for PC, but the rest of mine do?

Good thing to know that Zorro isn't driving any busses, if he were I'd stay off the sidewalks. I wish someone would have tried the physics problems, but that's life.

Oh, Janeway can I answer it? Can I, can I... I know why that offends you. I have a related question, in movies how come the quiet geek, who for some reason no one likes (what no geeks guys in the movie world?) has to let her hair down, take off the glasses and apply a ton of makeup to get the head quaterback? Why are all these movie geeks played by, what crtitics call "PUGS" (pretty, ugly girls) read: Mandy More and the like, and not real, popular geeks?

dragon - Who's to say that you can't find both? Geekettes look like normal girls too, they don't all have braces, glasses, plaid skirt and poceket protector... I'm not saying pass up good geeks until you find someone who has looks and brains. Look for brains, and if she happens to look like a goddess so be it. Ummmm... I think I just got something, and need to post to another thread now...... *climbs off of soap box, and grabs eraser*

Oh, look. A totally black page. View page source.... Let's see what happens if we plug in "menu.html". No, still black. How about "index2.html"? Black, with a scroll bar so I can see slightly more blackness.

Trying lynx... "[Document has only hidden links. Use the 'l'ist command.]" Nifty, never seen that message before. OK, take the "riddle/index.html" link (which tries to work in lynx, but I can't see any riddles, just a form and some FAQs) and plug it into Netscape. No go -- totally white page.

Sorry, I guess I failed the riddle of how to read the riddles.

Either that, or you failed to test your web pages with normal web browsers.

Gosh darnit, does no one use a internet standard plugin "FLASH" anymore... Sheesh... Lynxs??? text only will only make the problem worse. I love Flash, but appearntly netscape 4.x even with the plugin doesn't want to work on my riddle page. The first page should load (or do a plugin pop-up that would D/L flash. Perhaps it is time to find a way to get netscape to like it... (trying to re publish, with as an earlier version of flash, and if that doesn't I'll have a another Q for Z).
<EDIT Type=ADD>
There we go, all nice and Naetscape 4.x friendly. Should work with IE 4 and above, Netscape 4.x; requires Flash player 4 and above.

they really aren't unattainable, it is just so hard to catch them between boyfriends. you're best bet is to get involved in clubs that share your interests and wait for a cute one there. just being there shows you she has something in common. also, broaden your views of cute, I have found some of the cute ones tend to dress in a manner that hides them. they usually have a lower self esteem and don't realize how cute they are. one of My best looking dates was a girl with big black rimmed glasses and hair done up in a bun. she had this awful brown skirt and sweater. she liked drag racing as much as I so I asked her out. wowweeee did she look good naked. turs out she didn't like her look, but her parents were strict and those were the approved clothes and hairdo. sigh, I miss My teen years.........Z

I wish I could tell you but I have never used nutscrape. Actually, I haven't used many computers either. My first one was a TI-99/4a which I mastered easily. But as the old girl became outdated, My parents saw no reason to upgrade. The local schools were slow to upgrade as well and I used an apple IIe for most of My schooling. They didn't give us much instruction (most of the teachers didn't know how anyway, thats the problem with rural communities) so I took a long time to before I had much of a chance to learn anything. And of course growing up next to a reaceway park, cars were hard to avoid so I spent a lot of time at the track. I am getting better now, but I still have much to learn. Wish I were a better computer geek, sorry >;o) ............Z

Wow, same here (except for the Netscape, which I subjected myself to for far longer than it deserved). We got the TI when I was 6 or 7, and I remember taking a class in BASIC and not being totally incompetent at it, but my dad died when I was 8, and my mom never really pushed me to do any scientific stuff, so my only computer use between about 1987 and 1995 was playing games and goofing around with ClarisWorks on the computers at school. In my first year at college I took a course on science fiction and they taught us how to use the internet (with tin and lynx, heh) so I promptly discovered the joys of alt.sex.fetish.startrek (back before it was overrun by spam ), but it was a few more years before I really got up the gumption to go to school for CS. I put it off for a long time because I felt like it was too late... I figured I'd be the oldest person in a class full of 16-year-olds who'd been programming since they could walk. And I guess I probably am the oldest person in my Data Structures class, but I also have the highest grade, so I don't feel too bad

Here are some questions for Zorro...

Why is it that the people who decide how much we pay for social security don't pay it?

Why do we have to learn about things we don't care about and will never, ever see again?

How much could I sell my soul for?

Do you think that you should become a self-help guru?

Will anyone actually read this post... on the bottom of the third page?

Why do I procrastinate?

Why is Nayt so opposed to nevermind... I know that one.

Your physical location has no effect on the problem.

The diagonal of the square (and therefore the diameter) is 2?2, not ?2. (2^2 + 2^2 is 8, and the ?8 is 2?2.)

Read the problem again. He said it was a one inch square. The diagonal is therefore sqrt(1^2 + 1^2). (I'm assuming the question marks in your message were meant to be "radical signs".)

So the radius of the circle is ?2

Now, the formula for the area of a circle is <pi>*r^2, so the area of the circle is 2<pi>.

That would be fine, if you had a two inch square instead of a one inch square. Then everything would be twice as big in one dimension, and four times as big in two dimensions.

You're assuming quite a lot here... for starters, you're assuming I'm on a platform for which Flash even exists! Well, I'm not. I'm on HP-UX 10.20 on a PA-RISC 1.1 processor (it's a model 715/100).

But I also have a Win95 box here, so I fired up IE 5.5 on that and tried your site. I even answered the riddle.... It seems you only have one riddle at a time, so I guess that's the only thing I can do for now.

Ah... it turns out that the dates listed vertically in a column on the right hand side of the riddle page, below the riddle, are hyperlinks. Or whatever passes for hyperlinks in this strange world of web pages that are not HTML. Of course, there is no visual clue that they are hyperlinks -- they're not underlined or in a different font/color or anything.

But anyway, I answered the other two riddles, too. None of them is particuarly hard.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by Charisma:

A; because they are old enough to recieve it. since they don't pay it, they make it expensive for those that do. they are definately sadists.

Why do we have to learn about things we don't care about and will never, ever see again?

A; they just cover a broad range of things hoping that womething will interest you. no matter how mundane the subject, someone is actually finding it interesting enough to change their lives. If you go to a good enough school you can have your courses tailor made to your liking. I couldn't afford the cost, so I found school really really boring.

How much could I sell my soul for?

A; depends on how well you barter. Joe Namath got a Super Bowl victory for his. I'm still in negotiations. the possibiliteis are almost limitless.

Do you think that you should become a self-help guru?

A; yes. though i find the whole self help guru thing a bit contradicting. If you are trying to help yourself, why are you going to someone else for help. I think I could a much better job fixing people and giving them some self esteem (after I tear them down that is).

Will anyone actually read this post... on the bottom of the third page?

A; I will, not sure about the others. I think they are afraid I might turn them to the darkside.

Why do I procrastinate?

A: I do the same thing. I am a terrible procrastinator. I'll tell you the reasons later.

Why is Nayt so opposed to nevermind... I know that one.

hahaha, I am finally wearing you down. I knew eventually there wouldn't be any questions worth asking. I only have one question that I have yet to hear a good enough answer to satisfy Me.

*Why is it that no matter what I do My life never really seems to be less dull than it has always been.*

I have no real hopes, no worthwile dreams, no strong passions, nothing that is so good it makes Me want to get out of bed in the morning. I have tried just about everything. Sex, drugs, music, cars, sports, computers, girls, fetishes, fitness, books, magazines, ......etc. I have yet to find something that I can enjoy every day and not get tired of it. When ever I think I found something, it ends up losing all its luster. Am I looking too deep. For every sport I have ever loved, I find the ugliness and corruption. The greed of most sports is apalling. I enjoy cars, but I occasionally find Myself in a position where i don't want to work on them and will try to find an excuse not to. I see some of you out there who are totally passionate for computers, work, other geeky things, some non geeky things and I envy that so much. For everything I have ever enjoyed and bragged about liking, it has not been enough. I am always seeking something , but i have no clue what it is. I almost thought I would find the answer in religion, well, I have yet to be impressed by it and from what I have seen on the news I am not missing anything. I just keep going in a direction hoping it will lead Me somewhere fun. I think half the reason I study people so much is to find out what makes them happy. I know people who are always smiling and joyful, I just don't get them. I guess I am one of those poor bastards who are able to see the world for what it is and this takes its toll on Me. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on like this, I think I'll stop before I say something stupid, assuming of course I haven't already...........Z

Well, I think I've found something that you already enjoy, thoughI shan't bring it to too much attention...fear of 'losing its luster'...

But seriousely, Z,...I think the type of people who seek the different things this world has to offer, not thinking they'll find anything, end up quite happy in the end. They'll always be thinking of others (like you said you do), and when the time comes, they play a very important role in life [and other's lives].

Zorro-I said this to you when I first started posting, and I'll say it again-someday you'll find a woman who will rock your world.and I don't mean just physically-I mean mentally, emotionally, too. And when you do, you'll know what's been missing.

As far as hopes and dreams-what are you, late 20's??Nobody knows what they want at that age.Maybe you have to look a little deeper-isn't there a time in your life when you were very happy? Or maybe you just need to let that tender side out a little more.....

But, what do i know?

They'll always be thinking of others (like you said you do), and when the time comes, they play a very important role in life [and other's lives].

thanks, though I can think of a few people I pray don't become important role players. I think I could really use a vacation, I have gotten a little worn out over the last couple of years. I think If I can stabilize My friends and family a bit more I might have time to figure Myself out better. It seems I have become the "Mr Fixit" of their lives and half of their problems I have no experience with. (never mind they didn't take My advice the first time it was given which is half the reason they are in their current messes) I think a little r/r in japan would do Me wonders.......Z

**I remember that, I still keep a little ray of hope something like that might come along. I really need to learn how to spot them, when it comes to telling if someone is interested in Me, I am dumber than a bag of hammers. I simply have little clue, perhaps If I were less in My own world i might take more notice to people intentions towards Me. I am just too easily distracted, there is no focus.**

As far as hopes and dreams-what are you, late 20's??Nobody knows what they want at that age.

**when I was still quite young I knew exactly what I wanted; fast cars, hot girls, and lots of money. I have had a taste of all three and none of them were as fulfilling as I had originally hoped. It was a lot more fun to dream about them than to have them.**

Maybe you have to look a little deeper-isn't there a time in your life when you were very happy?

**depends on how you define happy, there were brief stints where I was happy. That usually lasted less than a day. Occasionally i might get a full weeks worth, but that hasn't been since I was still a little schoolboy. I am starting to think I am becoming immune to the whole happy thing. Every time I find something, the feeling wears off and I have to find something else. that is where I am at now, I am running out of fresh ideas. even tormentimg My coworkes has become a bit boring, it is just too easy now.**

Or maybe you just need to let that tender side out a little more.....

**ummm, isn't there a law against that, I think it is public indecency. Oh , not that tender side >;o). gosh, if I got too tender, it would freak everyone out. they would be very suspicious of My intentions. they have become comfortable with the colder Me. not sure I would trust the tenderness either..........Z**

But, what do i know?

**you knew enough to look at the third page and find this, most people won't even think to look here. I felt it was a good hiding place to air out some of My laundry. thanks for trying, I needed it >;o)

No, I have posted easy ones to start I have a lot of harder riddles, but I don't want to post them quite yet, as no one except you has turned in an attempt at the cryptograms.

I use flash because it can e a lot more interactive than HTML and Java Script, and I don't want to have to write a cgi script that does the same thing only takes more memory. It isn't pretending to be anything, it is a flash "smart clip" animation that I pasted together. I could have just as easily done it in HTML, a paint program and Javascript; but Flash is a really powerful tool that is also cross platform. I am sure there is a Unix/Linux port of the Shockwave plugin, perhaps it's not up to Flash 5/MX yet, but it should load it now.

The text butons for the dates do load the riddle movies, and I should find away to make them obviously pressable other than the mouse over events, but I figgured "if they think they can figgure out my riddles navigation without underlined blue text." Perhaps I thin to much of human's intelligence. I am working to make the Flash and Frames optional with javascript that will determine the bowser and capability and display the proper version. For ease of update the riddle page will remain Flash, but I will look at making the dates as links more obvious.

Thank you greycat, your feedback will be taken into serious consideration. Also, I will be posting some riddles that will challenge even you.

I have tried many not so normal activities, there is a lot of fun to be had. I just can't seem to get in a groove anymore, it is more like a rut. It would be a lot easier if everyone around Me didn't have so many problems that need fixing. In My family alone they have had three divorces. Fortunately, I am too far to get too involved in two of them. But I have to hear about it all the time and try to be encouraging to My mom. It is really breaking her up to see all her kid's marriages failing. unfortunately, my brother lives near by and I have to deal with that one fist hand. My mom and dad both expect Me to make sure everything goes well. I feel as though I am the only one left in the family with any maturity, they sure talk that way about Me. Perhaps that is why I always try to seem so immature with My pranks and gags. The thing that bigs Me the most is they always ysed to yell at Me for not being more like My older siblings in high school, now they don't want Me to turn out anything likie them. Still they think I am supposed to be able to fix all their problems. oops, here I am rambling on again. Perhaps a cruise ship would be fun for a week......Z

Zorro, perhaps I am a little naive or have seen the Wizard of Oz too many times, but Ive always found that what your looking for is typically right in your own back yard. The big thought that has come to mind is to list the things you always wanted to do, but never got a chance. I am talking about the Before I die list, you know stuff like: Shy diving, going to France, biking around Oz (Australia), bungee jumping, visiting the great pyramids. With all the glory and mystery of earth and the universe, the only people who are bored are the boring people. If your bored, then your too stiff and not making light of the life around you. The right girl to Rock his world wont solve the problem until he finds the thing he enjoys; after all, you cant get to know someone unless you know yourself, or youll lose yourself to your partners interests. While losing your self in someone elses interests may work for some people, but it seems that it wouldnt be very true to your self. Ive babbled long enough, I digress.

GameMaster, I usually agree with you, but on this one I have to argue. Who says you have to lose yourself in someone else's interests? The trick is to find someone with common interests and experiences, and you may find a happiness in it that was lost temporarily. I know what you're saying about knowing yourself first, and I wasn't suggesting that the right girl would solve all of Zorro's problems-I just think he needs someone who "gets" him.
Gee, Zorro, how does it feel being referred to in the third person?

Wake up, Zorro-you're not only a man, but a geek man at that.
You're supposed to be clueless as to whether or not someone is interested in you. It's in your genes.

Kinda like making fun of the Catholic Church

one time a friend of mine got hold of some police tape. we sectioned off one of the entrances to the local grocery store and made some chaulk outlines. after adding a few drops of novelty blood we left and sat across the street. It was real fun
till the cops showed up..............Z

I would be a little worried about a girl who "gets Me". I have a feeling that girl would end up taking over since I still have yet to "get Me". Though I suppose if she understood then she could help Me understand and all would be great. oooooohhhh the reward I would give such a girl. *makes note to self: kittens must perish tonite*

as far as being refered to in the third person, i am used to it. I suffered over 20 years of being referred to in the third person. My parents used to argue about Me all the time as though I wansn't in the room with them. I think it is a big reason I will often refer to Myself in the third person. well that and if I know it bothers someone I will use the third person......................Z

**the only thing in My back yard is a grave full of skeletons, oh wait, those are in the closet.**

The big thought that has come to mind is to list the things you always wanted to do, but never got a chance.

**I would have to leave off all the illegal stuff or i could end up serving jail time when they use it against Me. most of what's left is either illegal or costs too much.**

I am talking about the Before I die list, you know stuff like: Shy diving,

**I'm afraid of heights, and I do not believe in facing your fears. God took away My wings for a reason, and I would never bail from a perfectly airworthy plane on purpose.**

going to France

**Me and the French have a agreement, they don't like Me, and I don't like them. there are a few exceptions, but not enough to ever want to visit such a place.**

biking around Oz (Australia)

**as the crocodile hunters is so fond of saying "danger, danger, danger," the only thing that even competes with My fear of heights, is My terrible fear spiders. Oz is full of them. I don't care if they are harmless, the give Me the willies. I saw an episode where they had to shoo a huntsman spider from their house. Damn was that thing ever big. I saw enough big spiders in my trips to tennessee to last a life time. Me and spiders have an agreement" they stay in their webs outside, I don't kill them. They venture indoors, they are dead meat." though I have heard great things about Aussie girls, so maybe that wouldn't be a bad Idea. Now all I need is money.**

bungee jumping,

**ummmm, the heights thing again. and I don't trust rubber bands either.**

visiting the great pyramids

**well I think Britney's great pyramids would be more fun, but if I thought it was safe, I would definately go to the other great pyramids. By the way, could you loan me some extra cash and front Me some extra vacation time >;o).**

With all the glory and mystery of earth and the universe, the only people who are bored are the boring people.

**no one has ever referred to Me as boring before, I am good at keeping the others entertained, I just have a hard time keeping myself entertained.**

If your bored, then your too stiff and not making light of the life around you.

**trust Me , when I am stiff, there is nothing but light around Me. I think i am closing My eyes too hard.**

The right girl to Rock his world wont solve the problem until he finds the thing he enjoys; after all, you cant get to know someone unless you know yourself, or youll lose yourself to your partners interests.

**but what if the partner knows Zorro, then she could help Him with His dilemma. A fresh perspective might be just what the doctor ordered. someone with new ideas.**

While losing your self in someone elses interests may work for some people, but it seems that it wouldnt be very true to your self. Ive babbled long enough, I digress.

**thanks for your time, I smiled just answering some of these..........Z

no need to feel bad, I got over it long ago. Besides, I used to tease My mom about it all the time. I would often say things like "mom, is it okay if your son goes out to play". it used to drive her nuts. I never said such thing to My dad though. He never saw the humor. We are still very close now and I think My mom is still in denial that I enjoy tying people up so I can "play" with them. One of these days I will have to give her a video tape. Here is a little something to chear you up. We went to the Old Country Buffet when I was still quite young. They really liked the fried chicken and wanted to take some home **it was all you could eat of course** they were wrapping it up in napkins and stiking it in her purse. I noticed the manager watching and said nothin, just gave him a wink. you should have seen the embarassment when the manager confronted them. I still get a good laugh out of that one.............Z

Are you freakin' crazy?????!!!!! Why would your mom even know how you like to "play"? Does it just come up in conversation, like, "Oh, yeah, I was polishing my handcuffs the other day and...."? I hope that was just for shock value once again, Z...although that would explain alot...
