unfortunately i didn't have to write the date once yesterday. i didn't notice that it was pi day until i got home from work. i told my roommates but they had never heard of it (since europeans write the day first and the month second.) back at my high school as a fund raiser for mu alpha theta (the math club) all the math teachers would stand with their faces sticking through a hole in a big painted plywood sheet and students could buy pies for a dollar. since my teacher sponsored the math club i always got to do a lot of stuff that day. once i even took a pie in the face for five dollars, that's how much i love math. Sadly, it will never be PI day here - not until they increase the number of months we have. ------------------ IP: Logged |

*SOBBING* I missed it. Well, I suppose I can still catch India PI day.... (History of PI (great book by the way (I'm nesting again (darn it!))) says that a man gave to the state the right to use his discovery (that PI was actually equal to (somthing like) PI^2. Since we're talking about PI.... What is the area of a circle? *please someone bite - it's an awful joke, but I have to.* IP: Logged |

You want us to take a bite of Pi? Hmm, the area of a circle ... that's the square of the circumference, divided by 4*Pi. ------------------ IP: Logged |

My college had a contest where numbers were hidden all over campus, and whoever found the most correct numbers in Pi would win. I don't know yet who won. IP: Logged |

Yes, it sounds quite applicable to us all, but what shall we do to celebrate this to-be-momentous holiday? Any ideas? And is their a way we could all do it as a group, geeks and geeks alike? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Let's see, first, we need a name. Here are a few of my ideas: 1.) All Geeks Day 2.) Great Geek-o-rama 4.) Hollowgeek 5.) Geekoween 6.) Day of the Geek none of those seem very good, any ideas? Then we need things that geeky to use as to-be-traditional (place geek holiday name here) decore. I'd sugest old books, floppy (the really 5" ones), Slide-rules and the like. And of course, Monty-python already gave us our Geek day Carols... So all that leaves are Festivities. 1.) Orginizing a huge parade from the largest bookstore in the city to the largest computerstore(coffee shop, arcade or other geek places). --Alright maybe too big. Notice that traditional food wasn't mentioned. -> DONUTS IP: Logged |

YEAH!...unfortunately, that's never going to happen..:-( Forget I even..typed it; it's too much to bear. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I like "All geeks day" a day where every sport should be canceled and everyone should go out and play lasertag! IP: Logged |

Actually, that would be really cool... If only there were enough people to make the world stand still so we can all play lazer tag. Personally, Lazer tag would be a great way for the recent developments in the on going war in the middle east. Have a covert mission replace all the real guns and bombs woth "green" amunition. All Geeks day is born... It looks likes we need to set a time that we switch from Lazer tag to bombarding the game server. What is the best game for us to swarm... I'd love it to be something that falls under the GNU's GPL, and/or an old favorite... Something that screams geek, easily accessable to those that don't already have it, and cheap enough to validate large numbers of geeks to jump on it. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

No, I do. Darn, this is bringing it back... I just know someone else is going post now. In any case, I think we should begin tinking of games to flock into on 1010. Personally I have a few ideas of ones we might chose: 1.) Quake I suppose I should also say what I don't want to see it be, and that would be EQ or UEO for a great number of reasons. Any other ideas, and don't forget to cast your vote. IP: Logged |

Who said I didn't want to hear your opinion? I might not, ever, in a millon years, or an eternity, agree with it doesn't mean I don't want to hear it. As for your Beta, that's 'sok. I've got a few things too many that are still in Beta and aren't stable (and crash my machine(over, and over and voer again). ------------------ IP: Logged |

Actually, I think he was trying to make it SOUND spanish with the e', but 'el noche de Geeky' would be: "the night of Geeky" I do like the "de" but would prefer "El noche grande de el Geek" (The great night of the geek) or "Todo el Da De Geeks" (All Geeks Day)... !Yo Quiero el Quesso en Mi Zapatos! No Puerta Aqui. No Puerta Aqui. puerta all, puerta all, puerta all. Pero, ninguna puerta aqu. Heh, had to throw in some old favorite quotes of mime... since I know you're going ask... Sal is the coolest teacher I had in highschool, hell, we could call her "Sal" in class (high school physics) and her test always had a "Joe (someone in the class) is standing benith a piano droped from the top of a building.... What is the amount of force exserted on Joe when...." type of problems. She heard me telling someone the story from the latter qoute and began spewing her old (high school) buzz spanish phrase (the first quote), which I soon adopted... Sal is just SOOOOO cool. A friend of mine went to Diseny(sp?) World and the train there repeats in spanish and english "The door is now closing, please stand clear of the door." She was having a hell of a time with her spanish, her first spanish word was Gato, and another friend tutored her in spanish, and she thusly called him "El Gato." She came back with her new spanish phrase and began repeating it insistantly untill, while in the middle of a crowded store he gets fed up and says (almost yelling) the latter quote. Ah, those good old days. ------------------ IP: Logged |
