I went and saw Minority Report this past weekend and it's a very good movie. It's primarily an action movie, but it has a moderately complicated plot that's well told and easy to follow. I definitely recommend it if you enjoy sci-fi, detective stories or both. I' going to babble on more about it, but because it's a detective movie, I'm not going to ruin it by saying anyhing about the plot other than that it's based on a short story by Philip K. Dick.

The visualization of the future world the movie is set in is very well done. Certain parts, like the computer interfaces, cars and highway system are unrealistically shiny and cool-looking, but only a few things are obviously in the realm of fantasy (the jet pack police and flying police ships, for example). Other things, however, such as a hologram that appears to be computer generated from a two dimensional video image of a woman (the holographic imaging has nothing to do with the plot, so that's not a spoiler) are quite believable. I actually caught myself considering how much processor power it would take to recognize the parts of the image that represented the woman and wrap them onto a 3D model to use in generating the hologram before reminding myself that that it's a movie and holographic projectors don't really exist.

Tom Cruise does a suprisingly good job in the role of detective John Anderton. I don't really care for Tom Cruise and mostly I think he's fairly lame as actors go, but maybe this is a sign that he's getting more competant. I'm not saying he's turning in a performance I'd give an award for, mind you, but he did well in the role. For that matter, all the actors and actresses did good jobs with their roles, though none of them particularly stood out as being significantly better than any of the others.

Anyway, I'm bored now so that's all I'm going to say except for one last "go see this movie" ... it's worth the price of admission.

I didn't think the story line was the greatest -- it was pretty interesting, but I had it figured out about three quarters the way through the movie, if not a little earlier.

But the eye candy!

Visually this movie was such a treat for me. The eye sensors, the idea that everyone can be identified, the transportation, the recreation, even the advertising in the idealized future... And the notion of a society so built around technology, a la cyberpunk, has always been kind of enchanting to me in a way. Even more interesting, however, is the extent to which an unscientific type idea such as precognizance is toyed with and relied upon.

Normally I'm not big into "action/adventure" movies, but this one was pretty darn good. I would fully see it again.

Well i loved it for what it was worth. As a movie it was good and i didn't expect it to be better for some reason. happily satisfied. All the eye candy was great and i hope to have something resembling thier computers someday , if i live that long. I doubt the police with have machines to fly in like that one but i feel that we could have a elite force do this sometime and be like a in America delta force for terrorism , vertical flying air craft are already possible, and in like 54 years i think that it could be feasible ..but i am not that tech smart so who knows.. it would be cool to se i think. Tha freeways are a weird and frightening blast, so many cars and they can go right to your house and apartment and seeing the buildings being made into freeways is wild. All undersome sort of popluation explosion in bigger cities. But i love the cyber future feel to it. Like reading Transmetropolitan and seeing apart of it becoming a concrete reality for the moment. Even all the adverts in place in like the side walk and everywhere..strange and yet familiar already.

This movie was great. I love seeing what the future might be like, and they did that very well, as I pretty much expected. I forget how much futuristic things we see in A.I. I hope more movies like this get made.

I saw the first half of it, it was pretty sweet. I just love the idea of holographic advertisements, personalized to your retinal Identity. However, were they real, I'd probably try to hack the systems so they'd say things like "Hello, Immamoron" or "These Cars Suck"

I saw it and I thought is was a great movie. I mean, some of the technical stuff didn't exactly make sense but it was really good anyway.
