Yeah, fighting on Valentine's Day sucks. I feel you. I was all happy, and I had to go have a fight and mess it all up. I'm still trying to put my thoughts back together. The only date I had tonight was with an audience. Stupid admin thought they would shut us down for "not upholding the moral standards of our college." They never came to a rehearsal, never read the PR material, and then they try to stop us on opening night? Huh uh. No way. The student support was amazing. As soon as we walked on stage, people started cheering, and they wouldn't stop. I have never seen anything like it. Needless to say, we got to perform. Sorry for my lil rant, but I'm in a ranting mood. Screw guys. Screw love. I don't need any of it to be happy. I'm fine by myself.

Well there was no "date" involved...(except for my sister-inlaw who's childeren we were babysitting), but for the "old married farts" among us V-day is probably not going to involve a date unless it comes on a weekend, and then only if you can find someone you can afford to have babysit.

Our night consisted of the usual chasing kids, seperating fights, impatient snaps at eachother...you know a normal everyday kind of thing. Finally got all the childeren to bed and sat down to watch...something...here is where the night gets a little better. We chose (more me than her) to watch "You've Got Mail", love Tom and Meg. Anyway, I dislike AOL a ton even though the service I use at home is owned by them (Compuserve), and I realize the "unrealaity" of it, but I think it is the quintessential modern day "Cinderella" story. The empowered woman "shopgirl" and the dual role playing prince "NY152" it was nice to think/ fantasize (if only for 2 hours)that for someone out there the fairytale could come true. Then the movie was over and I went up to bed alone (which had a huge pile of clean, folded but not yet put away laundry on it), my wife got to stay up until midnight waiting for her sister to come get her kids.

Not exactly the ending to the day we were hoping for...but such is real life.

Well, I'm an old married fart, but my kids are both away at college, so no babysitting issues for us.

I got my wife a small bottle of Godiva chocolate liqueur. (chocolate and alcohol, a winning combination) We grilled some steaks and had a nice quiet dinner at home.

Being newlyweds, the wife and I planned a romantic evening at home. Candle light dinner, champaign, and each other. Well, to make a long story short, we overate, felt tired and just fell asleep! Hows that for newlywed life.

Well, I had to work my second job last night. It was a busy night in the pizza biz. I scored some good tips and made it home by 9:30 or so. I brought my wife a pizza and she was all grins. She had the kids in bed when I got home, but we could here them still talking as we ate pizza. After another ten minutes or so they nodded off and we went to bed.

A little while later we had some average lovin' (it would have been better if I wasn't still recovering from being sick). We had the REALLY GOOD lovin' about two weeks ago before I got the Cold/Flu from hell. Anyway, we were both satisfied and I didn't even have to buy roses. My wife is so cool. I'll get her flowers when she doesn't expect it!

Just wanted to say how much "award"'s night sounded like mine. I know it's un-glamourous to not have hot and heavy super sex, but you know, it sure feels great to have someone you can overeat with, then fall asleep beside, and not feel all dissappointed with.

Them are the joys of long term lasting relationship.

I get screwed on Valentine's day since it also happens to be my girlfriends birthday. I can't get away with just the chocolate and flower deal or else I'd be spending the night on the couch. Plus, she got me an awesome present for Christmas that I was not expecting in the least bit so I had to make up for that. So what did I do? Surprised her with a trip to Jamaica! She didn't have a clue what I got for her either. It was the best feeling seeing that stunned look on her face! I made up this cool letter with pictures of the resort we'll be staying at and the beach with some info about the trip. I then got a box from this clothes store that she hates and I wrapped the letter up in the box with a towel on the bottom to give it some weight. When she started unwrapping it and saw the name on the box she just gave me this odd look and I played dumb saying "I hope I got you the right size...." Once she saw that letter though she just stopped in total shock. She couldn't believe it at first! Needless to say the rest of my night went very, very well!

I like the newlywed life. We had just come back from vacation, so I had nothing planned. I had some flowers delivered to her at work and got her some candles she likes. She got me a belt I had looked at but never told her about. We ordered some pizza, watched a movie, and had a very simple, wonderful time together.

My night started off with my wife making a nice steak dinner. Then she got her step sister to stay at our house over night to watch our little girl. I thought we were just going to go out dancing, but she suprised me with a bed&breakfast. It was a very nice room with fireplace, jacuzi tub and king bed. So we enjoyed ourselves in front of the fire. Then soaked in the tub a little while and enjoyed ourselves again. Then went to bed and she selected a soft-porn movie on TV and after awhile enjoyed ourselves so more. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep and hope I don't fall asleep on my keyboard.

just an observation, but:

has anyone noticed that it's predominantly newbies who actually had dates for valentine's day? i'm not suggesting that there's necessarily a causal relationship at work here, but the correlation's certainly worth noting.

My VD wasn't what you'd call eventful. My girlfriend left for LA yesterday afternoon. (She is staff at a convention, and apparently somebody decided that it would be a good idea to have them all show up on valentine's day. Hm.) So by the time I got home from work, she was already gone, and I was on my own for dinner. And she'll be gone for a whole week.

I had flowers delivered to her at home/work during the day, (went with a roses/tulips arrangement, for reasons discussed in another forum); included with the flowers was a fairly elaborate home-made card with an ink/pencil/contay-chalk drawing of pigeons. And then I showed up at her place after work with a picnic basket, and proceeded to spread out on her living room floor a paisley throw, a bottle of tokaji wine, a couple champage flutes, a plate of crackers with sage derby cheese, a couple home-made eggplant, sundried tomato and shallot calzones, and fresh berries and cream. Oh, and she gave me some chocolates, a gorgeous painting of the first pot of flowers I gave her, and a photo of her that I had taken with her camera on an outing a couple weeks ago. Then we had dinner, and sat on the couch and kissed and almost fell asleep and talked until 1 in the morning, listening to Luka Bloom and Chris Isaac. Without a doubt, the nicest valentines day of my life, so far.

I was stood up. Was a girl I met online and talked to on the phone every night.

She just didn't show, didn't answer the phone, just disappeared.

So I cancelled the reservations, went to three different bars, gave the flowers to some girl I met at the bar, and somehow managed to get a cab ride home.

How pathetic is that?

Arby's & a white tiger. Wanted to be original, right? Chocolates, too common ... somethign mreo practical? Roast-beef sandwiches, curly-fries. Flowers? Bahh. Let's go for a different life-form altogether ... well, something terran, at least ... tiger. Perfect. White tiger? Stronger, faster, cuter. Even more perfect. No, not a real one, it's a stuffed animal.

I got a teddy bear with a red power-tie. It's about 5 times as long as the bear iteself, a comical sight ... the tie's gotta fit me, I'm a comical 6'5" sight.

We both got a good load of kissing. Not bad. We didn't eat the Arby's.

Valentine's Day was great. I bought my SO a couple of nice, "work casual" shirts and he treated me to a dozen truffles from Rocky Mountain, dinner for two at a local pesto cafe and a movie. I'm a happy girl.

And I didn't even have to put out.

Nothing pathetic about that, man. You can't help it if she didn't show, and kudos for going out anyway--too many people would sit at home and mope. Nice that you gave the flowers to some girl. Even if nothing comes of it, she may have been feeling better about her valentines day as a result of this stranger giving her flowers--well done!

Well, I dropped my daughter off at her grandparents' house and took my wife out to Ruby Tuesday where we had shrimp alfredo. She had a rum runner and I had a large draft of Coors Light. Followed by the movie What Women Want. Then we picked up the baby, went home and uhhhhh... ummm... went to bed. Yep, that's it nothing else after we got home.

Well, I certainly got it, though Lolita was quite a bit younger than 20.

One good thing about this, at least I veiw it as a good thing. You never had a chance for reasons that are not your fault. You could not have done anything to change the outcome. I never feel too upset over things I have no control over. If I *did* have some control and I blew it somehow, then I get bummed out, but there's no point to being upset by things you can't do anything about. Sort of like being annoyed that the sun rises in the East. No point in letting it bother you.

Now you know to look elsewhere. Good luck.

Well, as far the Nabakov reference, better that she's a Lolita than an Ada--"I can't date you because I have an ongoing clandestine affair with my brother, though it's not as bad as it sounds, because when we started having sex at the tender age of 11, I didn't know he was my brother; I thought he was just my cousin."

Man, he had some messed-up characters.
