j0. I just finished the Evangelion series for the first time, and I don't get it.

Is everyone really dead?

What exactly is an "impact"?

Are they all in some sort of heaven now?

Is Shinji a god somehow in that he can suddenly create his own realities??

I still haven't seen the movies yet, but if any of you guys could explain this stuff to me I'd be grateful.

How do i start to reply?
Umm no, everyone isn'y really dead, but they all do die in the following Evangelion movies ( which ought to be out anytime). Because shinji was able to choose his own path and life willingly , he saved the world and all the souls in it. The third impact was the interaction between the first angel Adam and and angel.. in this case the Adam turned out to be Lilith, one of adams three or four wives (whatever , lilith) , when that happened Lilith became the destroyer of the world in order to allow it room to begin again (Start from a clean slate so to speak). I don't think there was any heaven at all. It's implied but i feel that there was just a moment. Like stepping behind the stage at a grand opera or play and finding all the actors and singers standing around waiting for there parts to begin "On stage". To answer Shinji's seemingly godlike ending , We all have our own way to carve out the world we want to live in and this was just representation of shinji's part in everything, imho you could say that without the courage to live ones life one might as well fade back into nothingness and disappear without and identity soul. The movies are worse because so many people wer confused by the series as a whole he rewrote the whole series into a two part movie called Evangelion: Death and Rebirth, which had even more original animation ( soley the second part ) and commentary on what the angels were and who ran the whole shebang (Seele') and from what i have seen, don't expect to be shown the wizard behind the curtains. The movie left me with more questions and riddles. Hope that helped. This is one ultra series that will never really appreciated for it's genius. But this movie was made during a time in Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's life when he came off a bout of depression lasting four years ,which he overcame ,and came to understand enough about his own life to create an outlet for his feelings and understanding. Hope that helps..

Alright, thanks. That does help a bit. I really don't want everyone to die, though; I really loved this series.

Thanks for the insight,

They dont care about what you want they took the time to make the series so why should they care the just for some stupid reason wanted to destroy their perfect series.

I don't know... I think there's something to be said for an ending that has real finality to it. I'm sure we've all seen more than one series go on so far past the point where it should have been ended that it ruins the memory of how good things started out.

My friends were talking about Evangelion for months before I got a chance to watch it. Ended up running all thirteen hours back-to-back. I couldn't put it down... Until I collapsed and had weird dreams. Sometime after the last episode, I think...

It kicked much ass. I think the answer's in that last episode, though. Not about the series, about life.

What the F? Lain is pretty straight forward in comparison to the twisted ending within evangellion...sheesh. I think you're looking to deep into Lain, it was a pretty normal anime.(wait...maybe i'm thinking of cutey honey again)

oh, sorry.

y'know even if i tried to explain the ending to you it wouldn't ruin anything. the ending is so messed up that nothing i could say would ruin it for you- everyone goes through this with evangelion.

Evangelion is great, they crammed a bit much into one season though.

Guys, Evangelion is easy to understand...if you watch the real ending. The last movie "End of Evangelion" is the real ending, but is not allowed in America for several different reasons. The one during the series was made for a fan base in America, And it is easy to understand....well, except for that whole shattering of the world and all those people clapping. So, if you want to know more, ask, and ye shalt receive.
