actually, I'm a fully qualified Yorkshireman too SM (born on Ilkley Moor too).

As far as the Henrico County iBooks are concerned, you guys are potentially on the leading edge of a new use of technology in education. So there are bound to be problems involved with it. Hopefully, the iBooks will still benefit the students education, and the information generated from this first pass at the experiment will lead to improvements in the way it works for both the students and the schools.
I was in the first wave of maths students to be allowed to use pocket calculators for our exams back in the early 80s. We had our teething problems with them too. (like a slide rule was a much more effective defensive weapon)

Just curious. Were you really allowed to use calculators and/or slide rules in Maths? I went through US high schools in the 70's and we were allowed neither in Math, but were allowed either in the other sciences. Of course, we all had to learn slide rules, since very few of us could afford calculators when they first came out. When the prices dropped a few years later we would still bring a slide rule along as a backup, because the calculators always failed in some way when you really needed them. I still think that you can't use any calculator on Math exams here (well in New York at least)

In the UK, Calculators were first allowed to be used in the 'O' Level maths exams in 1983 (or at least in the area I was in). Up until then, you had to use books of tables and you could use slide rules in lessons but not the exam (although very few people still knew how to use them by then. I could only do +-*/ on them)

thanks, I was considering stopping one short and taking some time off just to build anticipation, I don't want to waste it on a boring subject. Or maybe I could start over with a different handle and leave it a 999. It is so out of character for me to be a blabbermouth, in person I hardly talk at all........Z
