...I got an imported one a few years ago to play the side-quest game for FFVIII (yes, I'm a Final Fantasy nut), and it was really cool- it had a nice interface with a relatively hi-res screen(well, relative to old Tomagotchi devices) and a surprisingly good speaker to boot-all packed into a shiny plastic case that was about the size of a regular memory card, only thicker. I was really surprised that Sony didn't release more to the US- that tiny device had so much potential- it was almost like an extremely small PDA. It's widely used in Japan(or was, I'm not sure), though, and Domestic PS2s actually recognize Pocketstations, as opposed to a regular memory card... ...Anybody else with stories about the Pocketstation?=D -alphacomp ------------------ IP: Logged |

I've been in Japan for a while now, and I'm not sure what you're talking about. Although they probably called it by a different name over here (that's pretty common). Do you have a picture, maybe? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Cool! Yeah, they're called "PocketStations" in Japanese, too. Boy, I must be really out of the loop! But now that I've seen one, I'm getting this irresistable urge to hit the Yahoo.co.jp auctions... Somebody stop me...please...! ------------------ IP: Logged |

IIRC, the reason they dropped them was because the batteries died after about 2 hours and the flash memory suffered a high failure rate. They were brought out to compete with the Dreamcast's 'memory card with a screen on it' and lasted about 2 months before Sony quietly forgot about them. Great idea, not so great implementation.
