Well, I don't, but I had a friend over to the house, and she started reading all the labels on the glues, and epoxies that I use for boat-building. Here's my favorite: This product contains a chemical known in the state of California to cause cancer Hmmm...maybe there are some benifits to not leaving your computer screen all day. I almost never read warning labels because they usually say obvious things like "Do not consume" or "do not use outdoors" or some other thing you'd have to be a moron to do. This is crying wolf-- what if it is an actual warning for something rational people don't do? IP: Logged |

This topic reminds me of a story I saw not long ago on Yahoo!'s Reuters feed, where a European Central Bank board member actually felt the need to warn people to not eat euro bills. Apparently the ink used is toxic in large quantities (as in you'd have to eat four hundred bills or so to get sick.) As Senor Domingo Solans (the aformentioned board member) put it, "``There is a product in the ink which, if you ingest 400 notes become toxic. So, besides being expensive, it is not recommendable to eat euro notes.''

kinda reminds me when my manager at work said not to eat to many pan pizza's right after they get done rising do to the wine used to make them. Be it you would have to eat about 40 or 50 large pans for that to happen, he still felt the need to warn us. LIke anyone could eat 50 large pans in one sitting, i can hardly eat one. Typically, when there's "no purchase necessary", it means you can send a SASE to get a game piece. The one I'm trying to figure out, though, is the latest Hershey's promotion. They'll have people at store exits, and if a randomly-selected person walks out with a Hershey's bar, they win an SUV. No purchase necessary. ------------------ IP: Logged |

The one I always remember was one of those stepladders. It said: Do not use on icy slopes. What gets me is that I can just see someone stupid enough to open up a step ladder and use it on an icy slope. IP: Logged |

We've noticed that smoke detectors come with batteries these days (as opposed to "batteries not included). My wife commented that it was a Good Thing, since it meant the smoke detectors were much more likely to be used. My suggestion, though, was that it was pure economics: The cost of including one battery with every smoke detector, combined, was probably less than the legal fees involved in waiting for the judge to laugh at the the plantiff for even one lawsuit of "Gee, I didn't know it needed batteries". ------------------ IP: Logged |
