heh, check out John 's binary finger counting tutorial (how to count in binary on your fingers). There's a shockwave and standard version. http://www.dnaco.net/~ivanjs/binary.html IP: Logged |

If your hands hurt while doing this, you're doing it wrong. Don't curl the fingers down and then extend them into the air. Instead, position your hands an inch or so above a flat surface (desk, table). Press the desired digits down onto the surface, or lift them up. While a base-2 representation gives you the broadest representation of numbers (0 to 1023), there's a lot to be said for a base-10 representation, since that's more natural for humans. You can represent up to 99 using your hands, with the following scheme: let the right thumb be worth 5, and each other digit of the right hand be worth 1. Let the left thumb be worth 50, and each other digit of the left hand be worth 10. IP: Logged |

hey, gang-thanks for the kind words on my binary finger counting page. And as someone pointed out, be careful with the number 4 in public. I've taught kids how to do this, and I start out pointing the hand down to avoid that moment of uncomfortableness and snickers. Great day to all! ------------------ IP: Logged |
