I FORGOT ! When they told me what it was way back in gradeschool. I thought it was just a meaningless bullshit number and refused to pay any attention to it. I do remember THEY and mom were impressed.

I got a 129 in 4th grade, I was put in the class that was for exceptional FIFTH graders, spiffy learning experience, lotta geeks in that class .. Personally, I don't put much swing on IQ tests, because they really don't show what you know, just how logical you are..

I never had my IQ tested as a child... and I'm afraid to get tested now because the results of the test might show me to be mentally retarded (quite a blow to my ego, no doubt) or show me to be a genius that has underachieved tremendously...

I was tested in the fifth grade but they'd never tell me what the results were. I've taken a few online and made anywhere from 135 to 158. You wouldn't know by looking at my grades from school though.

uh, they are not supposed to show what you know. that's what regular tests in school are for. they're supposed to test your "intelligence". but since i don't believe that intelligence is something that can or should be measured, i prefer to stay away from such things. When someone's intelligent it's easy to see it, you don't need a number.

I guess it's around 130 (tests differ). Which means that there are about seven million people smarter than me in the United States.

OTOH I regularly score 99th percentile in math and analytical thinking tests.

I'm not sure it's that important. The real measure of success in the long run is the love and respect of others, and the lives you make better. All other measures are based purely on social convention or religious superstition, IMO, except insofar as they help one to do good in the aforementioned real way.

Haven't got a clue. I was tested before I entered sixth grade, and I got put in the gifted class, so I'm above that cutoff, whatever it is, but I don't know what the number is. My parents know, but all they'll tell me is that my intelligence is quirky - in some ways I'm really smart, and in others I'm really dumb. I have the strangest feeling though that the raw score is higher than my dad's, but I can't substantiate that with any hard evidence. I don't know his raw score either (but he does).

I've taken two IQ tests, one in Psychology class and one that I found online. They both came out with exactly 118. So, I guess that (technically) makes me "smarter then average."

No, it means that there are about seven million people in the United States better than you at doing IQ tests (with heavy emphasis on the "about").

Personally I favour the "meaningless bullshit number" theory

Did you know that there are many different scales for IQ, so quoting a number isn't that useful. The problem is that it is what people remember. What you really need to know is the percentile.
Anyhow, a long time ago, 169, making me 1 in 2000

No, it just means I'm part imaginary. (I'm sure there's a joke about 'conjugate' in there somewhere ... but bugger me if I can find it.)

That's ok, spungo. It's not the size of your IQ that counts-it's how you use it.

I'm sorry. I just couldn't resist. Damn patch.

I recall being tested in elementary school...they said my score was completely off the charts. Which means that I was probably around the level of "freakasaurus."

Haven't tried any of those tests recently, though. It's not like I really care all that much.

I've been told that the number places me in the "genius" category (which means above 150).

...but given that I couldn't even spell "genius" correctly until about 3 years ago, I'm not sure how inclined I am to believe it.

I don't know the exact number, and I don't particularly care.  I'm sufficiently de-motivated by the kind of puzzles used in these tests that I'm sure I'd score lower now than I did when I was in junior high.

Last time I checked (midnight-ish in May ), I got 154. I just found out today, since I had gone to www.iqtest.com and asked them to e-mail me my results... they happened to get around to doing that Aug. 20th .

I mat point out, just for grins I answered all the questions on that test TRUE and told it I did it in 8 mins and it said I have an IQ of 116. A true IQ test cannot be miltipule choice (although even the certified tests are (grumble grumble)). I laugh at these numbers because the numbers are meaningless and vary between tests, what is important is the percentile ranking... As any MESA zealot would tell you (I hate those stuff people, even thouhgI'm smart enough to be one of them (i.e. in the top 2%, in the 98th percintie)).

Twink, look for samples lionked to by MENSA websites, they will be a lot more accurate.
