HEY GEEKS ! How do we like Jaguar ? Should I jump on it or wait ? My Daddy [ IBM lifer from the punch card era.] always told me "Son NEVER be an early adopter." Do they have Jaguar together yet ? Somehow I am NOT too excited by iChat. IP: Logged |

Sorry Max, you're obviously not a Mac user. I think it'll be safe to be an early adopter of MacOS X 10.2. I plan to be one. IP: Logged |

I've got to concur with Bregalad's conclusion. I'm with Jaguar all the way. Rendezvous looks to be super sweet. But then, my experience with Mac OSes starts with OS X 10.0. I've always been an early adopter. Sometimes it costs a bit more, but it sure is fun! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I'll let you know soon... Although as a developer we are under non-disclosure regarding discussing the specifics, I think it will be safe to post some impressions and observations. I'll be installing the beta of Jaguar ("jag-wahr" or "jag-u-ar", not "jag-wire", Steve) on my test Mac this weekend. I will say that the build they were running at Macworld Expo last week (an earlier one than we have) was very smooth, with many cool features. As I told Rednivek on IRC, the true test of whether you should early-adopt or not is how soon companies start putting "Requires Mac OS 10.2" on their products! Of course, I've been running 10.1 full time since a month before release, so I may be biased. =bd According to the Apple Legal Geniuses Non-Disclosure Agreement, I was never here, and I never posted this. I'm running 6C75 now (current builds up in the hundreds), and it's great! Being beta and all it has it's quirks, but it literally breathes new life into my aging G4 400. And that's WITHOUT a Quartz Extreme-supported video-card. It's at least as fast as OS 9 ever was. This upgrade is a no-brainer. IP: Logged |

I actually have developer access too, but I don't run betas on my home system and the Mac is a minority platform at work and there is no will to port our older than the hills Mac software to OS X. The future, so our leaders say, lies in .NET enhanced web applications running inside Internet Explorer. On that subject I must say that our developers are doing some pretty amazing stuff with .NET technology. Not only have we got previously impossible capabilities on web pages, but our applications are exchanging data with PDAs and sending messages to pagers and cell phones. Much as I hate the Redmond monopoly, I can't help but be impressed by what the people around me are doing with its software. IP: Logged |

As much as the new releases may be considered cutting-edge, because it's Unix, I only consider it to be bringing a "port" up to speed. I do intend to get Jaguar as soon as possible, but assuming that there is an Ultimate version of Unix ..... All platforms are simply applying Bug Fixes to their Implementation in an effort to Reach the Divine Status...... Still, I wish I spent more time in Technical / Academic Pursuits of Knowledge.......... One day, I will create an AI that puts all Lawyers out of work, and they have to pursue careers in Sliced Tubor Deep-Fat Fryer Operation (at McDonalds). ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yeah, get it. As it is 10.2, it's not really early adoption. That started back at 10.0, and it seems as though the problems are sorted. I'm still miffed that I have to pay (nearly) full price for it. The educational discount helps, but there should be a cheaper upgrade from 10.1 I reckon. IP: Logged |

THANKS ALL, You have eased my mind and made Apple 120 bucks. That one click shopping is dangerous. I mean it's OK for Amazon but at Apple.com you can get into real trouble fast. Well I can get into real trouble fast anywhere. Good pooint about it being UNIX. They are NEVER going to get a final version so may as well jump in now or you will be waiting for ever. IP: Logged |
