First, all three and spelled and pronouced differently.

Beyond that, they all have something in common... everybody has a slightly different definition for each and most of the time, the definitions overlap enough to make it impossible to specify definitive differences between them.

"Dork" is purely derogative. There is no implication of any skills (or useful knowledge) whatsoever. Interest may be present, but no actual skills.

"Nerd" is also derogative but skills and/or knowledge are present. However a useful outlet for those skills is usually missing. Amateur status is also implied. For example: a "Computer Nerd" is most likely your neighbor who is quite familiar with the workings of the internet. (He/She might be able to install an extra hard-disk in a computer but is clueless about LVD SCSI.

"Geek" is similar to "Nerd" in basic description. "Geek" however implies hireability (for their skills and/or knowledge). Key to "Geek" is the implication of hireability.

"Geek" is someone who gets geeked about technology, science, whatever.

"Nerd" could be a geek, but dresses oddly and is somewhat lacking in social skills.

"Dork" could be a geek and/or a nerd, but has an annoying habit of acting like a nerd-jock and spouting off facts when people dont care, or trying to "one-up" people with knowledge. Dork is totally lacking in social skills. Unfortunately for geeks and nerds, they are often equated with the dork.

How about some examples?

Linux dork: posts "open sources rules! Micro$soft suxors!" messages regularly on Slashdot (and everywhere else, too).
Linux nerd: installs Linux and uses it.
Linux geek: fixes the bugs, sends bug fix patches to authors, patches appear in the next version. (That used to be me, right now I am only a Linux user, not a developer).

Fitness dork: wears lycra, but never breaks a sweat.
Fitness nerd: runs a 5K every now and then, and everbody within earshot hears about it. (That's me).
Fitness geek: turns down social events because they conflict with Sunday 8:00 am schedule.

Science dork: watches Star Trek and believes the physics is real
Science nerd: reads Scientific American (That's me).
Science geek: works in a lab

That's just my taxonomy of the world.

well, I always call meself all of them...I usually define a nerd as somone who's smart, and could easily be geek, but has yet to develop the skill's...a geek is a person who's intelligent, and has skill(though what skill differs based on their chosen area of geekiness), and a dork is somone who has an interest but not the brain power to be considered a 'nerd' though CAN obtain proper skill if they are motivated enough..I know mostly dorks, I'm mostly nerd(I'm still an in training geek *sigh*), but TRUE geeks by my deffinition, I've only met two, and they were teachers...oh and most dorks also have an obsession with videogames, and/or anime, though most of them have the moronic perception that dragon ball is a good anime....IT WAS FUCKING MADE FOR *5* YEAR OLDS ...*cough* sry kinda sumthin that pisses me off heh...odd considering I havn't seen an anime in three months, and I havn't been gaming even 1/4 as much as I used too..

dorks don't want to be dorks... they'd far rather be head cheerleader/ captain of the soccer team, but just don't have the blandness down.

nerds couldn't and wouldn't be anything else, but they wish that the 'popular' people liked them, and thought they were cooler.

geeks are nerds who have made a success of their nerdiness. It doesn't matter whether people like them or not because they don't care, they're cooler than you anyway! (so ner)

at least, in my humble experience, this has always been the case
