My faithful old mac, a 7600/132 (upgraded to a 305MHz g3) is dying, for some inexplicable reason. The 2GB Hard drive is getting flaky, the processor outdated, errors occur more frequently....I can just FEEL the computer falling apart....(in short its acting like a new Dell) i am saddened as it has provided me w/ good service and I have many fond memories of it. After it dies I will be left with only its spouse, a Quadra840av that slows down playing Woldenstein-3d. any consolation? advice? funeral plans?

iQuadra, get someone to check the power supply for you. It sounds like that's what's going. If it's a bit weak, it will have a knock on effect on all the other components. If that's the problem, backup, clean out the dust, replace the PSU (and PRAM battery while you're at it) and reinstall everything fresh (also chuck a PCI ATA card and a decent sized IDE drive in). It will feel like a new machine! (assuming it's the PSU that is the problem of course) IP: Logged |

You apparently didn't read the article in "Wired News" about why Mac's surf soooooo slow. It's because of the OS. They are not going to do anything about it either. It's a legacy thing! I was considering buying the new 800mhz IPod, no more! I have been using "Dell" computers since 1993 and this is my third one. I had one problem with a burned out video card and they sent me a new one overnight. (At no charge) So keep your Mac and maybe some day I'll see you in the fast lane. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Your head is so far up your ass you wouldn't know a Dell from an "IPOD". That name is soooo stricking it reminds me of IMAC. What's the difference, they both are crap!!!! JimmyWix, you are obviously a technological know nothing who couldn't tell his arse from his elbows if they weren't properly labelled. If they were labelled, you'd still have to ask a grown up to read the labels for you. As such, you show absolutely no credibility in recommending what computer to use, especially as you don't seem to know the names of any of them, let alone have any first party information on using them. Red is right, this is pointless. We could all argue about our OS/Hardware preference, but it is silly. Use what you like, and don't attack others for their choice. I have engaged in some practical discussions with others here about the pros and cons of Linux (my pref.) and Mac OS 9/X. I received not flames like this, but constructive criticism, and/or reasons why they like Macs. This is disgusting and outrageous. There is no reason to get so bent out of shape and personally assail someone for their geographic region (UK is just fine in my book - it's where many of us started out from anyway). I don't know if you really went to Vietnam or not, and to be honest, I don't really care. There is no reason to be "having fun with a mac lover." That is the behavior of a rotten, spoiled, and mean-spirited child. Before the fourth comment here, advice was being kindly given on how to deal with a computer problem. I do not see why this should erupt into a flame war. Such behavior is pointless, and does not belong here. If you want to carry on in such a way, go to your local schoolyard, or perhaps a VFW meeting (perhaps in your case it will stand for Vote For Windows). IP: Logged |

LOL This is some good stuff.... well the first few flames were, but then I grew bored. I will pretend to be a mediator now. I'm in the Navy and doing my own tour right now which isn't quite 'Nam, but it's still serving my country. And I remember using a mac back at Indiana University in one of the computer labs..... Soooo I bring the experiences of both parties to the table, and I have a solution for you all.....
OR we will have to decide this on the field of honor! QUAKE DEATHMATCH!
