Let it be said, that while OS X lets you burn 4 cds at once. The hardware does not take a liking to it. It all started when i want to mass duplicate a cd and started buring 4 cd's at once. It all worked fine. Then the next day all my apps start crashing at random. While OS X is nice and has protected memory apps droping out of the sky is very annying. Then came the boot problems. First my precious could not find the HD then it had kernal panics while booting. It lost the cd drive, the Firewire buss, and then usb. A quick visit to the local apple store and i find out that i fried the Mother board. They ask if i did anything weird with the computer, and i told them i was burning 4 cds at once. Tim at the apple store said that would do it. so now my precious is getting a new mother board and new HD. I have been with out him for 3 hours now, and i am all ready greif stricken. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I'm not buying 4 concurrent CD-burning sessions as a reason why a mobo should fail. As long as there is sufficient power and cooling, and things are properly connected and configured, I can't imagine how that might happen. Sorry about your loss, though. -supa, who's seen plenty of computer parts die under completely normal circumstances, and a few that worked when they shouldn't have. IP: Logged |

I have been an apple certified tech for more than a decade and I don't buy burning too many CDs as a cause of your problem for even one nanosecond (which is coincidentally about how long it would take for a rogue electron to travel 9 inches which also coincidentally is probably just about the length of the IDE cable connecting your drive to your motherboard hmmm). ------------------ IP: Logged |

When one passes on we try to tell ourselves there is something we could have done. We often know there is noting we could have done. friends and family tell us what we need to hear to get through the tuff time. This is what must have happened. I was greatly destressed about the failer of my mac and the guys really had no idea what it was so they told me what i needed to know to leave them alone. In my emotional dispear i took that and ran with itt. new idea. it was all the drivers. but let it be known you can not bribe mac genius with free pizza to get yoru computer done faster. nayt ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well, it is a sad sad day. Seems my Hd mapping was messed up. So they formatted my drive. I lost everything. =( iot gets worse because as i normally back up everything. I was unable to back up this round due to the trouble with the drive. This is so depressing. Someone told me i may be able to restore some of the data, but i am doubtful. Man i am depressed.
