A fan sent me this, I had to share...

I liked the Joy of Tech episode where the guy takes I guess his girlfriend to a Mac User Group meeting telling her that he was taking her to his family. I kind of did something like that a few years back with my fiance when I told her I was taking her to my favorite vacation spot which happened to be MacWorld Expo NYC!

We had a great time at MacWorld and got to see the ever cool G4 Cube. She asked me if it was a toaster!

My AMD is more like an incinerator. I have to wear protective, heat retardant clothing to even go near the thing

speaking of Cubes... I just wanted to let you all know that I have put together a new site devoted to the coveted PowerMac G4 Cubes and their owners.

http://www.cubeowner.com is still in its infancy, but I hope it will grow to become the 1st stop for all things Cubed. There's a Cube FAQ and message forum, resources, links, photo gallery and other things of interest to Cube enthusiasts.

Frozen G4 Cubes last a lot longer than ice, but don't keep my sodas cold.

G4s. Not as good as ice. But ice doesn't get me on the net!

What's bad about G4 Cube? I thought it's cool but hear that it's very disappointment. Huh?

imho, the main drawback of the cube was its lack of expandability. it's hard to fit a PCI card into a ten-inch cube packed with other components.

Once I thought the cube was the coolest Mac yet, but they killed it. Now the new iMac is here, I can't seem to decide.

Once I've got the money together, I'll probably be replacing my Cube with a new iMac. I say replacing, but the only Mac I've ever actually 'retired' yet is my old Performa 6400, which actually physically wore out (it suffered massive bus failure after 5+ years of day in day out studio work). So my Cube will either become the showpiece living room machine, or our internet/router control machine in the entrance hall.

Woo! Someone else on this planet owns a P6400! I guess it actually is designed to be a bus-failure attraction vortex. Keeps these errors off of all the other machines :-/
This machine, to get back to the original thread, was the first Mac resembling a toaster - and the thing i really love about it is the buildt-in subwoofer. Turn it on on max vol, and at startup chime, its actually hovering an inch above the ground!

It probably didn't help that my 6400 was overstuffed with drives and cards and was used in a studio environment nearly 24/7 (quite a lot of that time unfortunately also involved cigarette smoke too until I persuaded my GF to give up smoking). First the floopy & CD ROM drives failed (smoke inhalation) and got replaced by an external SCSI one, then the SCSI bus started failing and that was it.

The Subwoofer was cool though, and the pull out the back HAL style motherboard ruled
