i admit it, i use smart quotes, you know, the annoying ones that are shaped differently. These smart quotes look real cool though
i'm told they drive people insane

One of my pet hates is seeing backquotes "`" (actually a grave accent, so says Character Map) passed off as opening quoation marks :)

Correct quotation marks are single: and double: and . On the Web, the named entities are ‘, ’, “ and ”. Older Netscape doesn't like named entities, so it maybe that you'd have to use numerical entities, of ASCII codes 145, 146, 147 and 148 respectively. Those are the codes you type in the Alt+0nnn format in Windows to get the characters (Word has a better way), and this will work on Web pages but is not advisable. Mac users can use (shift-)opt-[ and (shift-)opt-] for those characters, which will not work on Web pages as Windows won't translate them, and Mac browsers will think they are Windows characters, and will incorrectly translate them.

Now, something I read the other day says that you are not supposed to use numerical HTML entities for the range of characters missing from the ISO-8859-1 spec, which include typographers' quotes, and other useful characters that I always use numerical entities for. Named entities are no good, so one must hope that older Netscape likes Unicode named entities... Or else, just tell Netscape to stuff its and use named ones anyhow :)

Heh, I've rambled on far too long here, but, like ilovemydualg4, love typographers' quotes. I just ain't gonna use HTML entities all through my posts to use them, just hitting the ' or " key is enough for me :)

Edit: What the hell...? Nyurgh... seems that, in Verdana (the font used for the Forum posts), opening quotation marks are drawn as backquotes... so it isn't you lot after all, it's the moronic font designer... ;) *shakes head* No end to it, no end...

well, i just like being selfish and say that everyone out there uses a mac, and if they don't they shouldnt be alive (jk)....

the only reason i do it is because i've seen austin powers 1 and2 so much lately when dr evil goes.... For I have devoloped a LA-SER and with this LA-SER I will.... and, You see, I have developed what I call a Time Machine and with this so called Time machine..... hahahahahah (please excuse my paraphrasing)

I would have a mac if I had the money to buy one.

Right now, the only mac I can afford is the kind that comes with fries and a soda.
