Yay! The Dual Ghz G4 is upon us! Still no TiBook update, but hey, you take what you can get. And they all have SuperDrives except the base model. And Dual monitor support. And gigabit ethernet. Weeee! Hey, these would be excellent for crunching rc5 keys. The dual gig models should be able to do 18MKeys/sec. ------------------ IP: Logged |

To be perfectly honest it's a lame update. 6 months nets only 66MHz and a new video card? Sure the dual GHz is nice and the price drop unexpected, but considering how quickly things are supposed to move in the computer world, the other two machines are actually worse (for their time) than the ones they're replacing. And note that the processor inside is only a 7455, not the more modern 7460 design. We're still two steps away from a G5 I'm tired of being soaked because I want a display larger than 1024x768. The tower is overpriced when you compare the specs with the iMac. For $200 you get a 15" LCD and a SuperDrive, both costly components. The 800MHz tower has a somewhat better video card, a bigger hard drive (~$25) and PCI slots. Big whoop! The only machine that looks OK in terms of incremental cost is the dual GHz and it's way out of my price range. The TiBook will hit 800MHz in March at Macworld Tokyo. The new displays will debut there too. BTW I'm no Wintel apologist, I've got 9 Macs in my collection. They range from an SE with two floppy drives to a G4/450DP with a gig of RAM. IP: Logged |
