OH mighty Geeks of the forums, I humbly ask for your Wisdom regarding Programs or add ons for IE that will stop popups from appearing on my computer and bogging me down, you see Fark where I read daily links to a lot of news sites that use the cursed popups and they annoy me, however I dont know what to look for to stop them. I am using an iMac running OS 9.1 and IE 5 (If opera was free Id use it) thank you I leave here 5 cickens and a score of fresh Cantaloupe melons as an offering (chicken "buk buk")(chicken "buk buk")(chicken "buk buk")(chicken "buk buk")(chicken "buk buk") ------------------ IP: Logged |

www.mozilla.org Go get Mozilla 0.99 for Mac OS 9! When you get it, open up the Preferences, go down to Advanced and flick the litte triangle thingy. Next, click on "Scripts & Windows" then, in the "Allow Scripts To:" box, UNcheck, "Open unrequested windows," "Move or resize existing windows," and "Raise or lower windows." I s'pose you could leave "move or resize" turned on, p'rolly won't hurt anything. Good luck! IP: Logged |

www.adsubtract.com unfortunatley, it's only good for a windoze PC the free one won't stop popups, but it'll prevent anything on the page that pops up from loading, not enough IMO
it's damn near flawless IP: Logged |

While we are on the topic, is there anything currently available that disables pop-up ads on MSIE 5.1 for OS X? I used to be a user of WebFree and thought it was a great product; however I can't use it in OS X. Has anything been developed since that can do the same thing? ~ Fervently hoping... For Mac OSX, get OmniWeb. You can disable popups in the preferences. IP: Logged |

Unfortunately the last time I turned off pop-ups (in Opera I think) it made it so clicking a link that normally opens a new window didn't work. I had to go back and re-enable pop-ups. I finally found a pop-up that I didn't mind seeing. Somebody posted a recommendation of a mail order PC place called TCWO.com. Their "annoying" popup is a notice that all domestic orders up to 150lbs ship for only $6.95. Now that's a popup worth seeing! Hikaru, Opera is free if you use the "adware" version. I've had a few things go wrong running it on MacOS 9.1 and 9.2, but it's still my first choice. It's fast and stable on Windows 2000 and is definitely my first choice as a PC browser. Never underestimate the usefulness of a Google search field built right into the browser's window frame. On MacOS X I use Mozilla the most. Omniweb renders really nice fonts though. Of course there are sites out there that refuse to work properly with anything other than IE on Windows. Those people will never get money from me. IP: Logged |
