I love this damn thing! I just started classes again, for which it was mandated that we have a laptop. So, being the geek I am, even though the schools recommendation was to get a windoze box, there was no way in hell I was going to spend my own money on bloatware. So, I showed up, flipped the top, woke 'er up, plugged 'er in to the 100MB ethernet port, and we were away to the races. Everyone else had Dell's, Compaq's, etc. with XP, and had to reboot at least once to get a stable connection. And then I watched in horror when the girl in front of me rebooted three times during the day. It was painful! Painful I tell you. I've had this machine now for about 6 weeks and I think it's been running non-stop for about two. So long ago I can't remember. I could go on... But, needless to say, I'm playing the evangelist in the class: "wasn't it awfully expensive?", "But, you can't run any programs!", "It's not a real computer.", "But nobody else has a Mac, how are you going to talk to them?" hehehe "768 MB RAM!!??! How much?" we all know how it goes. Oh, and the best was when the prof was talking about how PC's are just commodoties now and how hard it is to stay in business if you sell PC's. Then he commented how Apple was irrelevant in the marketplace! Well, the fist of death came down, and I quietly reminded him that Apple is one of the few computer companies to make a profit, and that having 5 billion dollars in their bank account must be a sure sign of their imminent failure! He's in my bad books. Holy crap I rambled...gotta run ------------------ IP: Logged |

Way to go, daveyt! Glad to hear you're enjoying your PowerBook... I just upgraded my TiBook 500 to 10.2 Jaguar and feel like I got a processor upgrade. I was thinking about this over the weekend, as I had 2 distict conversations with PC users, and I'm thinking that they're both going to be Switchers. My roomate had occasion to watch one of these discussions, and was amazed at the way I talked to the individual (whom we met in a coffee shop as she was using her Dell). The thing you have to keep in mind, and the tendancy is against this, is that you can't make them feel stupid for making their decision to drop $2K on a Dell... You have to win them over by being persuasive, and overcoming objections, and be demonstrating (or just explaining) the ways Mac OS and Apple hardware work together in synergy to provide the best-of-class experience in computing, Don't belittle them. Encourage them to "see the light." But whatever you decide to do with THEM, enjoy the powerbook, and definitely enjoy OS X Jaguar! =bd I'd rather fight than switch IP: Logged |
