For thousands of years the moon has been part of our culture, our lore, and our lives. It is simply one the most beautiful things this world has to offer. It's inspired some of the greatest songs in history, such as "Clair de Lune", "Moonlight Sonata", and "Fly Me to the Moon". I love everything there is about the Moon; the crescents, the half moons, the eclipses, the waxing, the waning, the risings and settings. The simple act of gazing at the moon can immerse you in a Sea of Serenity, which brings us to why I painted it.
When Neil Armstrong died on August 25, 2012, I was deeply saddened. I decided to paint the full Moon, as a small tribute to his memory. I thought it was very sweet when his family asked "the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink." When I look at this painting that's exactly what I like to do.

I think you will love this painting. Like the Moon, its palette is limited, but there is a richness and lushness to the paint that depicts its surface. And like the Moon it only reveals its secrets when looking at it closer up. From far away this painting looks like the Moon does when viewing from our planet with the naked eye. Closer up and it's like viewing our friend through a telescope. I had such fun painting the darker lunar planes (maria) and the lighter highland areas (terrae), trying to imagine the tremendous and terrifyingly powerful forces that created them, both vulcanism and meteorite impact. It's a bleak and unforgiving landscape, but one also so beautiful, a "magnificent desolation" as Buzz Aldrin described it, while walking on the surface.

Best of luck to all bidders, and to the winner, I know you will adore this painting as much as I do. It was an absolute pleasure to paint and to be honest, it will be very hard to part with!

Details: "Full Moon" original painting, on 6 x 6 inch stretched canvas, with a wooden frame. The painting is about a half inch thick, with painted sides, so you can display it as is, or frame it if you wish. The back of the painting contains the title, the date painted, Nitrozac's signature, and a fingerprint for authenticity.

Shipping for each painting is extra... to the US and Canada via airmail it is 15 dollars, to other locations, 25 dollars. If the buyer is located in Canada, I will have to charge the appropriate HST Canadian taxes.
