DeForest Kelley, Star Trek's "Bones", dies at 79.

The End of an Era...

After an extended illness, Actor DeForest Kelley, who portrayed crusty Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy on Star Trek, died on June 11th, Stardate 1999. He was 79.

Although perhaps not the most popular character on the series, he was crucial to the success of the series, playing the human foil to Mr. Spock, and the voice of humanity in a future time.

Upon hearing of the passing, Spock showed no hint of the long running "conflict" between Bones and himself, in fact, he seemed almost emotional. Said Spock "He represented humanity and it fitted him well. He was a decent, loving, caring partner and will be deeply missed."

(it has long been speculated that Spock has always admired Dr. McCoy, perhaps even envied his emotional capacity.)

An emotional Captain Kirk was quoted "DeForest Kelly was a Southern gentalman all his life, a kind, good, wonderful friend. I will miss him."

Sulu added "Despite the character he played, he was a sweet shy, and gentle man."

In addition to "Star Trek," DeForest made appearances on dozens of television shows, including "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza." His movies, besides the Star Trek series, included "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral".

Kelley is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Carolyn and millions of fans all over this galaxy.
