Casa del Druid is walking distance from the Port of Melbourne. When we first moved into the area 25 years ago, it was a gritty working-class area, most of our neighbours were Maltese or Italian, and worked on the docks, or the nearby fruit and vegetable market.

Casa del Druid V1.0 was, let's not mince words, a slum. Neighbours told us it had operated as a brothel for several years. We paid 2 years of the average wage for it, and when it was paid off, we sold it for 3 times the average wage, and bought the substantially bigger and better Casa del Druid V2.0 in a nicer street for 6 times the average wage.

The house a few doors down from us (not as nice as ours, IMHO) sold recently for 24 times the average wage, Mrs Druid was chatting to the new owners today, he's a heart surgeon, she's a judge.

I think the area is officially 'Gentrified'.

maybe one, the other or both want quick access to the brothels.

By walking distance from port of Melbourne I assume you mean St. Kilda, which by all accounts does have a fairly colourful history ...

Nah, it's a long time since the pier in St Kilda has been used for anything other than illicit drug deals and furtive sexual liaisons.

I mean the actual port - you know, with the ships and cranes and stuff.

Ah Port Melbourne itself, not really a bad area, I ride through there pretty regularly when I'm feeling energetic enough for 20km+ distance. I don't mind it so much except people are stupid about checking for bikes on the bike path ....
