Or: Is this for real?

EDIT:here is actual link, sorry. (just in case someone else wants to giggle too)

http://business.theage.com.au/gatto-flies-out-to-solve-sticky-opes-problem/20080408-24io.html

The link is theage.com.au and the article is the one about Gatto trying to get money back for some investors that lost money in the Opes collapse.

um, is this like an aussie version of the onion, or is a group of mobsters sending gatto "to collect"

Either way I had a wonderful laugh reading the article.

The name of this gatto guy's business sums it up: Arbitrations & Mediations. Says in article he concentrates on making problems 'go away' and helping 'expedite' negotiations between management and unions.

Well, if true article, then at least down under they are more practical in not making too much of a distinction between mobworld and wall street.

Thanks

It's for real, Mr Gatto is a fine, upstanding member of the Australian business community, who just happens to be one of the few in his social circles who wasn't killed in the gangland war of the late 90's - early noughties. Many of the funerals happened at the church just a few blocks from Casa del Druid.

Mr Gatto's a wonderful man, won't hear a word against him.

Opes Prime had a number of clients who were "business associates" of Mr Gatto, and are none too pleased to see their (entirely honestly obtained) money go down the drain, so they've asked him to take a trip to some of the tax havens Opes Prime did business in, to see if he can locate the money and convince those who have it to "do the right thing".

Perfectly legitimate, I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Thank you very much TFD.

Makes you shake your head tho, a real honest newspaper printing a story about the mob sending a fix-it man all over the world to go collect shady money from a failed brokerage.

Mr Gatto (lovely man - won't hear a word against him) is quite a celebrity at the moment.

One of the aussie TV networks is showing a mini-series about the gangland wars (mostly filmed within a few blocks of Casa del Druid). As one of the few surviving participants (when I say 'participant' I'm not saying he did anything illegal, he's a fine fellow, won't hear a word against him, but it's on the public record that he killed a gangster in self defence) who isn't in jail, pretty-much anything he does is considered newsworthy.

Add him in to the biggest Financial story in oz, and you have a headline writers wet-dream.
