... but not without aches and pains!

Nitrozac and I had a great day on the slopes yesterday. It was our first time trying snowboarding. For me it was frustrating, since I know how to ski and was drooling at the sunny slopes, wishing I could just go for it! But snowboarding is like being back at square one.

We rented equiptment... nice new boards and boots, and took a lesson. Our instructor was great, and at one point we even had an instructor each... great service. I did OK, got the handle of toeside, and was digging keelside, but it was really challenging. Even standing up after strapping on the board was tough for this geek. [blush]

I took a couple of wipe outs, glad I had the helmet, and had to bail out on a few runaway Snaggys. One of them I landed hard on my butt, yow! Next time I getting the butt cushion!

Ouch, I am sore today just about everywhere.

Part of the problem was just a lack of fitness, there was muscles being used I haven't used since, well, ever, so they gave out pretty fast. All in all though, it was fun and Nitro is already talking about buying a board, so we'll try it again sometime soon.

Me, I might go skiing first though. [Razz]

Snowboarding rocks, especially in deep snow. I learned how to snowboard when I was 15. I was fit too. I spent the morning falling down the bunny hill and the afternoon falling down the bunny hill. The next day, I could barely put my clothes on.

But the second time I went up, it got better. The third time, I was linking turns, heelside to toeside to heelside again.

I can't do any jumps though. Well, if I don't know it's coming, I sort of can, but any time I deliberately try to catch air the "Xanthine, if you fsck up you're going to get hurt" buzzer goes off in my head and, since I'm afraid of pain, I get anxious, overthink it, and take a wipe out that makes the people watching wince.

Come to think of it, I do that without jumps too. But I've never broken anything, or jacked up a joint to the point I needed medical attention.
