It's all here for you to read, left to right.

I found the part about right-handed flogging particularly enlightening.

I tend to drive on the left side as the other drivers get annoyed if I don't.

So long as everyone is driving on the same side of the road, it doesn't really matter.

Of course it matters. The fact that we drive on the right side of the road in the US is just another sign of the grip the Christian conservatives hold on the country [Wink]

The reason why sensible countries drive on the left is perfectly clear to me, as I have only just made it up.

Let me explain - most people are right-handed, so as you are riding your horse you want oncoming soldiers, vagabonds, highwaymen etc to pass you on your right side so that you can get a good swipe at him with your sabre if the need arises. And of course he will be thinking the same and wanting you to pass on his right side for similar reasons.

We drive on the left because we already had the habit of keeping left before cars were invented. Countries which drive on right are just being silly. [Razz]

Actually, I'd prefer oncoming traffic to drive on the opposite side of the road.

Nice find Snaggy. I always enjoy reading about the historical reasons things are the way they are today.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh. I've been in a rather crappy mood lately.

Directions are relative.

Apart from needing some new underwear, yes.

TFD, something similar happened to me coming around a bend in a canyon a couple years ago. The fact that I was doing nothing wrong/stupid and I STILL almost had an accident pissed me off big time.

My car just died tonight. It's not permanently dead, but now it needs a new alternator. I'm feeling a little cross with the mechanic who told me I was wrong when I told him the noise was ominous. I was not wrong. Doom was imminent. Now I have to find a mechanic who will let me make payments because I thought everything was fine and spent all my money on textbooks and molecular modeling software.

I'd just like to say that, while it's okay to flash your brights at a guy who has no headlights on at all, it's probably not going to do much good if the lights are merely dimming. That really pissed me off. I stayed on my side of the road and everything! <There, now I'm on topic!
