High speed internet.

After a half a year of waiting, complaining, and dragging the company employees over to do several signal test i'm finally getting high speed internet on monday.

So after having dial-up my whole life except for at school i am finally able to fuffil my internet dreams.

Fingers are crossed that nothing will develop between now and monday afternoon which will stop me from getting it.

Unlimited Porn is like oxygen. Though it exists and though it is a good thing, no one man will ever use it all.

That shouldn't put you off trying, though I advise bulk buying kleenex before you start. [Wink]

o..k..

I could see uilleann and steen making a porn reply because they basically live off the internet and kleenexes. But honestly that kind of crap just isn't my style.

so do you guys have any advice on what should be my first download when i get the high speed internet? ( no porn advice please)

Steen, LOL! So true.

Besides, all the really large files I download are DJ mixes, it's cool to be able to download an hour-and-a-half DJ mix in possibly less time than it took to download a single tune over 56k.

If you must be so boring about it... a Knoppix ISO certainly wouldn't be a bad idea. My personal best has been 92 seconds... that made me very happy. [Smile]

Still, if you can't take a joke from Steen or uilleann, that's kind of sad. :-/

Well, we are talking about Steven's home connection. Personal bests at work or elsewhere are just cheating :) I've never beaten about 1.2 MB/sec or so (1.5?), at my university, one night when there were presumably not many people around.

To be fair, uilleann's posts are really not a bunch of dumb one-liners. Many of them are pretty interesting.

With broadband at home, I like getting ISOs (as Dman suggests)... even Vista Beta just to check it out... and watching the high-res movie trailers at quicktime.com... and setting up a smart tab in Safari that loads my 15 favorite websites with one click every morning.

But anyways thanks for the advice guys. [Applause]

Okay, let me make sure I've got this straight

So, when you post something like "was the kitchen filthy before you came or should i just insert my own plot?" it's just a joke and it's okay.

When I post something like "Unlimited Porn!", it's an insult and it's not okay.

Glad you cleared that up for me. I'm having difficulty with the definition for hypocrite, too. Would you mind helping me with that and providing an example while you're at it?

Well, I am happy for you. Dial up blows. Every time I'm stuck in the hospital or a hotel that doesn't have broadband, I am reminded of that fact. It doesn't blow quite as much as no internet access, however, so it's not all bad.

As far as suggestions on what to download, it depends on your tastes. Most of my non-work related downloads tend to be MP3s and occasionally a game demo or Neverwinter Nights module.

I will second the suggestion of a Knoppix ISO to burn a CD from. Very handy in the event that you need to recover from a hard drive crash if you don't already have one.

If he already has a hard drive crash, where's he going to store the ISO?

Steen suggested getting the ISO now, to _burn_. He said it would be handy if one's hard drive died, and having it is better than not having it. He posits that one might already have the ISO, but if not, get it now and burn it.

And as an aside: It's utterly kickass how this post was composed. No, there's really no point in my saying that, but a few folks might have an inkling what I'm talking about (*looks in max's direction*).
