So every summer I embark on a hacking/modding/creating project, does anyone else have anything planned like that this summer? I will be creating a pneumatic assist paintball marker or two, basically hacking together two types of paintball guns.

Just wondering whats going to be on your workbench these upcoming months

I got a cheapass USB-powered "vibrating massager" at MicroCenter a week or so ago. I'm adding a rheostat and knob to the motor first, then I'm going to write a little something to make it respond to ping. (A'la the Rez Trance controller.)

Yes, I'll give you all the IP when I'm done. [Big Grin]

Crap, I was totally thinking last week that someone should make a USB powered "body massager".

I was like "god that would be 100x more popular than the pet rock"

My projects:

Stop the excessive masturbation (if there is such a thing as "excessive" masturbation).
Cut porn expenses by 70%.
Create a good photography-portfolio to apply with at the University.

Lowering my expenses allows me to save up more. I wanna get myself a Sako Quad rifle soon..

I must admit that my summer projects are much less inspirational than a USB "body massager"

I'm currently on academic term which means I'm stuck in school all summer... So I'm working as many hours as I possibly can to keep myself out of debt for another year of my degree.

I'm pretty sure I'll find some time for camping and some hiking somewhere in there though

I'm working on a Flash remake of Metasquarer and a plugin for the Finale notation editor. I also need to update my portfolio and turn my resume into a CV, but that probably won't take more than a few days.

I am hoping to, besides from various teaching jobs to bring in pocket money, to create a fashion catalogue featuring the students at my college wearing their outfits.

Bummer, my summer projects also pale in comparison to jiggly USB devices. But Demos, could you post a summary of what you've accomplished and how (in high-level terms) you did it when you're done? Um... "done" modding the device I mean [Wink]

I'll probably be stripping the ugly-ass red paint that was on the deck when we bought the house and treating the wood properly. Plus I need to finish my half-done laundry-area-repainting-and-shelf-installation project. And I guess I really ought to fix the two pieces of siding that blew off the house earlier this year.

Hopefully I'll also get a chance to work on our family website. I've been paying for the domain and hosting since March, you'd think I'd get moving already.

I'm trading up my '04 Scion xA for an '06 Scion tC.

As a result, I'll have the fun project of removing the sound system I installed in the xA, and figuring out how to splice into the head unit of the tC.

Not a long term project, but a scary one. [Wink]

Aside from this, I'm going through the wonderful process of taking various standardized tests (ACT, SAT, etc) in preparation for college studies this fall/next year. I've been out of high school for three years, so this has been a fun process. [Razz]

Gonna try to combine those last two? And as someone said on irc, wtf are you doing paying for porn?

The only project I'm going to work on this summer is backing up files, replacing a fried motherboard and building a $200 computer.

My third year project. Which unfortunately means I don't have any time to work for real money to see me through said third year *sigh*

Oh, and also building a Linux PVR, but that shouldn't take as long [Smile]

Currently addicted to thunderbirds "check mail" button. I have an application in on a Google Summer of Code project.

It'll be a live version of FC4 with OSCAR configured to be the master node, and net-boot the clients (with images in ram instead of on hard disk).

I'm also working on a couple of other live linux CDs based on Knoppix:
- A personal one
- One small enough to fit on the office's UBCD with all the other tools that are already on it. It has an old copy of tom's Linux, but it doesn't have the tools to be really useful.

I'm also working and taking summer classes. It'll be interesting.

magefile -

Heh, I got pretty picky when it comes to porn.
I don't have this "I want porn, *any* porn"-kind-of-attitude, but rather "I want this kind of porn-category with exactly this model doing this".
Which means I can't use any of the "traditional" ways of getting my hands on it, but I have to get it the "fair" way of joining the model's website. Which - in the end- is pretty nice.
In addition, it's easier as well, but everybody needs to decide (according to his "needs" and kink) if he'd like to buy porn.

I'll seriously try all three "projects" though, LOL.

I have a summer "Rainy Day" project, as I have dedicated the non-rainy days to the start of putting a second million miles on my 93-FXRS-CON.

The project is building a media/computer center in my basement.

It will include completely custom cabinetry, since building cabinetry is a hobby, a new HDTV, and top it off with the MacIntel pro workstation if and when it ever arrives. The Sony HVR-Z1U is on its way, and I'm hoping FCP 5 will run HD a lot faster on the MacIntel machine.

I suppose I could hire this out, but building a room like this from the cinderblocks out is too freakin' geekin' to pass up.

Jeez, Colonel Panic, you still haunt these parts?

I'm jealous of all the cool stuff you're all doing. Except classes. And quitting porn. And paying for porn.

But besides that, definitly, very jealous.
