Well I just submitted my PhD thesis, "The design of novel microwave-heated reaction cells for infrared spectroscopy", and I can't get the goofy grin off my face! I also want to tell everyone I know that I have finally finished the damn thing!
I also found out today that my first paper has been accepted by the learned journal sciencia, so I will soon be published as well.
So I'm pretty damned chuffed, and even the knowledge that I have no money and have to find a job isn't getting me down.
If you know anyone in the market for a post-doctoral researcher who is interested in heterogeneous gas phase catalysis, let me know!

Congratulations littlefish
A massive achievement, which I am sure must have taken a lot of hard work.

Yay! for Littlefish!
I just over-nighted the final pieces of my grad school application today. It's due by the 15th (which is kinda crazy since it's a Sunday, but oh well). Now I just have to wait a few months to find out my results. Oh, I hope they accept me! To think I'll be in my early 30s once I finish with my Ph.D. ...

I'm so jealous. I'm just now writing my proposal for my dissertation. I feel like I'm just entering the tunnel, and here you are basking in the light at the end of it.
Bask away! You've worked hard, and you deserve it. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Congrats. A good friend of mine completed his not too long ago as well. That is a big accomplishment. You deserve a pat on the back. ![[Applause]](graemlins/applause.gif)

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in physical chemistry; I don't even know what CU's physical chemists are into. :/ Good luck on the post-doc hunt! Is your advisor going to let you hang around until you find something?

Now why didn't I think of that?
Congratulations indeed, I never even got to university so am very envious of an achievement of such distinction. Do you now become asomewhatlargerfish, or merely Dr littlefish?

Before you start to go forth and acquire employment etc, I suggest you go forth and sin and celebrate. Time enough for the boring stuff after. hahahaha
Congrats!!!!

Hah - I just sent in a scholarship application due then. Actually, it gets better - it's a postmark deadline, and you have to send it by regular US post. Remind me again where I can find a post office open on Sunday? 'Course, that's Microsoft for you, eh?
Congrats, little[phd]ish!

There's a post office on or near Capitol Hill that is closed only on Christmas Day.

Thanks everyone!
I don't know what I'll be doing next. There is a slim chance that I will be doing top secret classified military research for the MOD. I'm also applying to a spin-out company from the university of Oxford.
I've got to finish another paper, clear out the lab and so on before I can get a job. I'll probably find some temping stuff first to make some cash, which is sorely lacking. Then of course there is the oral exam, which will happen in a month or two.
