Warm milk is no magic potion, but really helps sometimes.

For me, walk 30 minutes on a treadmill and you sleep like a baby! [tired] zzZZZZ

It's to do with the release of endorphines into the body. Any strenuous exercise will do.
I remember that after the adrenaline had worn off, I'd sometimes have trouble staying awake at school after playing basketball at lunch.

Orgasm and laughter are also known to cause endorphines to be released. So go and masturbate to some hilariously funny porn. [Big Grin]

You get hallucinations from Ambien? Cool.

You could try the "Speechless" solution - do a big load of laundry, take it warm from the dryer, spread it on your bed and lie down in it.

Read small print, in dim light, laying down.

If all else fails, smoke a bowl and have at.

Do as many push-ups as you can or spend some quality time with a pair of reasonably heavy dumbells, and you'll sleep like a baby.

As long a you do it early in the day and get plenty of protein in your diet. It triggers a rush that'll keep you awake for a few more hours, then it hits you like a train and knock you out all night.

I have found one reliable trick for getting to sleep. Don't go to sleep unless you are tired. Get up at the same time every morning and then go to sleep when you are too tired to stay awake any more. It seems to work fairly well.

Also don't forget that your body temperature needs to drop a little in order to sleep. Although people say 98.6 is human body temperature, in actuality it varies by a degree or two over the course of the day, with the most sudden drop in the hour or so before sleep onset. Because of that sleeping with too many covers or a thermostat set too high can affect ones ability to fall asleep quickly.

Along with the general change in brain chemistry and thought patterns caused by exercise or masturbation, the subsequent changes in blood flow also disrupts homeostasis. This causes the body to correct to one more appropriate to the time. A hot bath or a warm beverage can have the same effect.

Of course avoiding caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, salt, and other things right before bed that will affect metabolism is generally a good idea as well. Quiet activities before trying to go to sleep are not a bad idea either. But for me personally, I have found the don't try to sleep unless I am tired thing works pretty well.

Good wine, or whisky for dreams.
Read a couple of chapters of whatever...
The crucial ingredient however, is a full belly - and to hell with what the dieticians say [Big Grin]

A full belly often cause nightmares, or you wake up at 4 o'clock in the morning and dry all the water in the city.

And yea! The hell with the dieticians..

I'll back up the Melatonin suppliments suggestion.

After all, I suggested it to MacManKrisK in the first place. [Big Grin]

Don't bother. Just go to sleep when you need to. If you have to get up in the morning, don't worry about it. You might feel horribly tired when the alarm goes off, but after a few days your body will learn its lesson and go to sleep at a reasonable time.

Stay up till 2:00 AM studying/reading/surfing the internet every night and then wake up at 6:30 sharp. You won't sleep much, but when you do, you'll fall asleep within 30 seconds of crawling in bed.

(Well it works for me, at least [crazy] )

MAJOR INSOMNIA ATTACK!!!!! [Eek!] [Mad] [Eek!] [Mad]

I have no tricks. I've tried them all. Nothing works.

My confession:

I am a lifelong insomniac. Such seems my fate.

Simple, repetitive math problems, like factoring numbers or working out roots or something.

I find that a lot of the time when I can't sleep it's that my brain is too busy thinking about something else, so if I focus on something that takes mental energy away from it, I tend to fall asleep more easily.
