Well thank you to all you posted suggestions on the ipod virgin thread - now I have one more question.

Today (just in time!) I got the refurbished ipod mini from Overstock.com. Just in time to prevent a melt-down of a daughter who otherwise would have only socks and underwear under the tree. I briefly opened up the box and found the mini in a nice white box. On the one side are two symbols for headphones and USB. I opened that and found headphones, a little package with two covers for the headphones, a belt clip, and that's it.... WTF - no USB cable?!?!?

So - is there anything other than the USB cable that is missing? Is there supposed to be a manual? A CD? What else??

Thanks!

THere's supposed to be a USB cable, a manual, and a CD.

I know Target sells iPods and the appropriate accessories. I'm not sure about the manual and CD but you might be able to get the cable.

You can just download the software at Apple's site. It should already be loaded on the iPod, though.

Thanks guys! You rock!

I called Overstock and they are shipping a cable out. If I can get that I won't worry too much about the manual and I already have downloaded iTunes.

Since we are opening gifts here at home tonight (and then Friday at one grandparents and Saturday at the other) I'll be stopping at Target this afternoon to pick up a "spare" cable. Hopefully they have one for less than the $20 that the online Apple store charges.

Just be warned that even the guys at my local Apple store are quite vocal about the fact that the iPod mini had the most trouble out of all of them. I've been mostly lucky with mine, only having one major crash which was able to be fixed by a reset (but only after I let the battery drain all the way down since according to the Mac Genius the Mini managed to get locked into the crash).

If you can get AppleCare on a refurb, do it.
