Does anyone here play RPG games? Either the MMORPG like WoW, or EQ. Or the older paper and pencil games like GURPS and D&D. If so what ones do you play?

I was just wondering if anyone else played was all. I am about to try WoW again after 9 months. I played Ultima Online and Shadowbane in the past.

Runequester from way back.
Also Call of Cthulhu, D&D, Cyberpunk, Paranoia, Traveller, you name it.
[edit] Oh yeah, and Stormbringer.

Those new-fangled computer RPGs are just not the same...

Really TFD, I never knew

My RPG shelf includes AD&D, RQII and III, T&T, MERPS, GURPS, Traveller (the little black books edition), Talislanta, WHFRP, Mechwarrior, CoC, Bushido, Cyberpunk, Palladium RPG, Gamma World.. Empire of the Petal Throne, Stormbringer, Chivalry & Sorcery, plus a few obscurities like Mega, Machine Guns & Magic, Maelstrom and at least one rarity - Adventures in Fantasy by Dave Arneson and Richard Snider (autographed box no less) - plus my own home written set of rules The Segrondan RPG (that is a whole game btw, properly set ... not some cobbled up bunch of mods to other games... )

Many of these games have never actually been played... just read and plundered for rules ideas and source material and so on... Some of the old ones (EotPT, Adventures in Fantasy and C&S are in fact almost unplayable by modern standards (or any standards...)) Some were played once or twice to try them out... but my first love was always my own pseudo mediaeval campaign world which started out as AD&D through variant AD&D to a modified RQIII and finally my own Segrondan Rules System....

Then there is the source material... magazines, files of old games and campaign maps and NPC's and all that...

I was a huge RPG fanboy but I haven't really played or GM'd for about 6 years now...

Mostly it is finding the time and enough players who can spare the time altogether in one place at the same time
.... ;(

Apparently Grummash was a bit of an AD&Der back in the day too...

And I like computer type games too - but they aren't RPG's in any real sense that I understand RPGs...

I have found that Neverwinter Nights, Fallout and Fallout2 come very close.

I like the Final Fantasy series and Xenosaga. I haven't gotten into MMORPGs because I can't see paying $15/month for the privilege of playing something I already paid $50 for. I'd love to learn to play D&D someday, I just need a teacher.

I played through some of Neverwinter Nights, never got into it.

I play Guild Wars now, though not obsessively. The beauty of Guild Wars (other than its spectacular graphics) is in there is no monthly fee. All the fun of a huge player base without that monthly hit on the bank account. [Smile]

The no monthly fee also helps casual players like myself in that I can play at my leisure, no pressure that I'm not using what I purchased.

D&D, AD&D, D&D 3.0 and now 3.5, as a matter of fact I am a triad member for Living Grayhawk for the Swiss region (The Dullstrand).

Played Cyberpunk, Shadowrun and Runequest as well and know of most of those that Serenak listed on his list. Wot, no Paranoia!

I am off to Gen Con UK in 3 days to play more RPGs there, in between the drinking sessions.

I also have played Dark Age of Camelot and am also playing WoW, but on the European servers.

Fallout was supposed to be based on GURPS, but then they had some kind of disagreement with Steve Jackson Games.

I used to play GURPS all the time. But like Serenak says its hard to find a group now.

I tried Neverwinter Nights when it came out, I was not very impressed with it.

Serenak is quite right, although "back in the day" in this context is 20 years ago [shake head] Fond memories also for the "Fighting Fantasy" books of Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone - it always saddens me when I see copies of Deathtrap Dungeon or Forest of Doom languishing in a charity shop....

I've played a LOT of pen and paper RPGs - too many to list. Whenever I go to PlatteCon I try to play at least one new game.

However, I have only played a few regularly - (A)D&D, ShadowRun, Mechwarrior, Ars Magica.

I used to play EverQuest but stopped. I also played City of Heros for a few months (but stopped). I signed up for the free year of Anarchy Online but haven't played a lot.

I've also played non MMORPGs - Wizardy, Ultima, bard's tale etc. I'm curruntly playing diablo II.

I'm a table-topping gamer. I play White Wolf's World of Darkness stuff, sometimes. Also Paranoia and Ninja Burger. I've played others, as well, including systems that my friends have made up.

It's been a long time since I've played D&D, though.

I've been thinking about playing WoW, but, knowing me it would suck up all my time, which I can't afford to let happen.

Some of you may remember Orpheus (my bf and a fellow GC member who hasn't graced us with his presence in a while). Well, he has become a total WoW nut. He keeps trying to get me to join him, but I would have to get my own subscription, and then I feel like we would really never leave the house. I'm starting to understand the concept of being a video game widow.

I never have gotten into MMORPGs, for the same reason as Peebs, but I have done most of the other types out there. I did some AD&D when I was younger, and have played quite a few console RPGs. I also have spent some time on various types of MUDs in the past, too.

D&D 3.5 currently, plus WoW on the MMORPG side. Over the years I've played most incarnations of D&D, plus: Call of Cthulhu, Bushido, Paranoia, GURPS, Cyberpunk 2020, Champions, HERO System fantasy, various Palladium systems, several World of Darkness games (including a Werewolf LARP), Teenagers from Outer Space and I even once thought about playing Talislanta -- until I realized the system sucked worse than Mayfair RPGs (and that's some pretty extreme suckage).

Oh, I play em all. FF, WoW, BG, GW, all of the computer games. My true love is pencil and paper. D&D is the best. I learned on version 2 but currently play 3.0. Death to you all who use 3.5! But, seriously, 3.5 just complicates some things too much, but they did make the ranger better, and thats my favorite character. Anyway, RPer for life.
