Hey all.

I don't know if this is the right place at all, but you guys are quite knowledgeable!
Maybe you could help me here.

My family lives in Austria. My sister finished University and is now a doctor working for a hospital in New York.
Now that I have finished high school, and have a few months to spare before entering University myself, I am looking for a place to work in New York for a month, so I have some time with my sister. Since she is in New York with her husband, and I am in Austria, we seldomly meet. My sister invited me to come to New York for a month, and work for a non-profit organization so we can spend more time together.

I am 18 years old, I finished high school. My english skills are reasonable and quite good - written and spoken. I am looking for a volunteer-work job in New York for September.
So, I would be very grateful if you could let me know where I could volunteer to work for a month in September.
I can't really work and get paid because I am Austrian and thus do not have a social security number.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Thomas

Surely they offer work visas for foreigners? Well if you're only going to be there for a few months it might not be worth the hassle to get a work visa. Does your sister know anyone with small children? If your sister could put in a good word for you, you might be able to find a babysitting job. Then again, it would only be after school since most kids are back in school by September.

If that doesn't work out, check out the New York Cares site. good luck!
