Let's see. So far today, some weird stuff has happened.
1) The one man in our company everyone hates beyond belief got promoted to head controller of the entire public company.
2) That same man was late putting our payroll amounts into the automated system, so the bank deposits for our paycheques didn't make it into our accounts today like it was supposed to. People who were not supposed to come into today had to to sign cheques so we all had money (me especially, since I'm broke, and going to my parents for the weekend and need the money for gas, etc.)
3) One of my coworkers found... what looks like the beginnings of a real chicken in his egg sandwich this morning.. (he cooked it himself, so he can't sue anyone. ) .. he just broke two eggs into a container, broke the yolks, and threw it in the microwave for a minute. And then put it on his sandwich. He went to eat it, and noticed this brown lump that looked like meat in the middle. Showed it to me. I have a strong stomach, and I almost puked.
3) One of the only people I can actually tolerate in our Calgary office gave his notice.
4) I can't count.
... it's only 1pm and today's already been really weird.
Here's to hoping it gets better. :|

I second that man.
It's only 10 am out here, and I've already had a roll of film spring from the canister all over my house, spilt coffee on my sock (nowhere else, just my white sock), and realized two hours after I left the house that I forgot to do up my fly.
/me is very happy I didn't tuck in my shirt.
It can only get better, right?

To conjure up bad omen, just repeat a few times: "Friday 13th are lucky days." So if it doesn't get better, just think how worse it would have been if Friday 13th were unlucky.
Or just remember this is total superstition and shouldn't have its place in our highly educated lives.
Edit: the strangest thing that happened to me yet is that my frozen dinner came out fully hot (no still-frozen center!) after putting it in the microwave for the recommended time.

/me doesn't believe in superstition - it's just another day...
Mind you, I was going to shoot off an e-mail to the folks @ http://mozdev.org/ for how terrible the header of their page looks, but finally realized what it was all about, and now I don't care. Hopefully they'll revert it tomorrow.

Nothing strange has happened yet, but my company's IT department is starting a major upgrade to our customer relations management software tonight. Not sure about the timing on that one. And in an ironic twist, the sequentially-assigned intranet article ID for the instructions to upgrade the client software on our workstations is 666! ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

This may come as a shock ...... but I actually forgot to make coffee this morning. About 10am I started getting a bad head ache from it and realized I forgot my coffee. This is something that has never happened before. I'm afraid.....very afraid

Changing from Fri. 13th to 666, has anyone noticed that June 6th, 2006 will be 666 day. Maybe thats when doomsday comes...
NOTE: I personally don't believe this, I just thought it would be funny

On a related topic, does anyone else know why Fri. 13th got it's bad reputation? More specifically, Fri. 13th of October... Believe it was sometime in the mid 1100's, but, I'm easily mistaken on that, mighta been the early 1200's... *shrugs* Meh

Hm. How far back does this Friday the 13th thing go? I've heard that it originated with the Knights Templar. Supposedly loads of them were arrested for heresy on October the 13th, 1307 (I don't know if that was a Friday). They were tortured, forced to sign confessions against the higher members of the order, and then loads of them were burnt at the stake soon after. Nasty 14th century stuff. Supposedly that christened Friday the 13th as a day of horrible, rotten, bad, icky luck.
Can anyone confirm/refute this?

I was born on a Friday the 13th. People say it shows.
Nothing weirder than usually happened to me yesterday, but I typically consider Friday the 13 my lucky day. ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

I beleive the Friday 13th thing is an accretion of other "bad luck" superstitions.
Friday is bad because that is the day Christ was crucified, 13 for a host of dubious "reasons" not least of which being the 13 at the last supper... add these together and Friday 13th becomes an especially "unlucky" and/or ill aspected day.

The 13th of October, 1307, was indeed a Friday. I love reading about that time period ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

Is that why Catholics didn't used to eat meat on Fridays? And what happened to that tradition?

Actually, someone once did an analysis, and determined that, under the current calendar system, the 13th day of the month was more likely to be a Friday than any other day of the week. One would presume that the dark forces would choose the day of the week that offered maximum opportunity for havoc...

I believe that is due to Vatican II, which also allowed mass in the vernacular and (I think) natural family planning.

Hrmmm.. At first reading this post I didn't think anything odd went on Friday. Then I thought about it and a couple things did. The most prominent thing is I think that was the day my desktop officially gave out. It's been on the fritz for awhile but Friday was the fateful day..

Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut. Turns out our big CRM software upgrade went south and they had to abort!
