Mrs Druid and I went out to a local seafood restaurant for our 21st anniversary dinner. We started with a dozen oysters, and found this...

 -

An almost perfectly round pearl, about 4mm in diameter.
Mrs Druid, (who is a jeweller) is going to set it in a pendant.

Oysters? On your anniversary? Really?

Been reading some Ian Fleming lately? [Big Grin]

Congratulations on the anniversary *and* the pearl.

The Bible tells us we're made in God's image, Druid. I don't believe much in coincidence. I think you've just seen a very personal, special example of the Father's love and His sense of humor.

That is a beautiful pearl. Josh saw the picture and thought it was Dione (saturnian satellite). [Wink]

Sounds like you got a nice present for your anniversary.

I know absolutely nothing about jewellery. What would that pearl be worth? Not saying you should sell it, just curiosity. [Razz]

Congrats to the druids. Am I the only one who sees a smile on that pearl?

Yes, quite a coincidence. Almost enough to shake a mans lack-of-faith.
When I first showed the pearl to Mrs Druid she thought I was playing some kind of trick.

Probably not a lot, it's quite small, and pearls are cheap enough that people can wear strings of them.
Doesn't matter anyway, it's not for sale.

How about this one ....

After she woke up, a woman told her husband, "I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for our anniversary. What do you think it means?"

"You'll know tonight." he said.

That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife.

Delighted, she opened it to find a book entitled "The Meaning of Dreams."

*ahem*

Think I'll skip the "pearl necklace" gags thanks very much...

Well finding a pearl is something worth celebrating... and making a pendant from it it a beautiful idea, how much its monetary value is irrelevant, it will symbolise your 21st forever..

Once found a seed pearl in a plate of mussels... about 1-1.5mm in diameter, was pleased to have found it but being so small it soon went astray... Never mind - it was nice to have found it...

Glad to hear you have made 21 years "irregardless"(sic)

Good for you TFD - I wish you many, many more happy years...

[thumbsup]

I wasn't implying they should sell it, nor should they care what it's worth, I was just honestly curious as to what pearls are worth, since I know nothing about jewellry, and I was curious.

When I told this story to a workmate, he asked what we ate for the main course, was it pork perchance?

I replied that I would never put pearls before swine.

Nice one TFD, but it doesn't count on this thread. [Roll Eyes]

Edit: But at least that means this is not the pearl of great price.

Wow how beautiful!! Finding a pearl in an oyster is something I never thought happened to people not searching for them.
Serendipitous!! [Eek!]

I wonder how a thread went to 17 posts without a geek saying that earlier. [Wink]

Wow - congrats on 21!! Myself and SWMBO are at (kicks off shoes to count....) only 12.

BTW - for DNFW - look at "bead" places for prices on all kinds of cheap pearls. They don't often have the perfect jewelry quality, but close enough for my wife who likes to do crafty things with them. For example: http://www.eebeads.com/_freshpearls.htm

Of course *that* pearl is priceless!
