2 1/2 years ago, Mrs Druid suddenly fell ill. She gained weight (20 kg in a month), her cholesterol levels shot up to 6 times her usual level. Tests showed she had FSGS, a mysterious kidney disease.

The quacks started hammering her with drugs to help her kidneys, more drugs to suppress her immune system (it's thought it may be an auto-immune disease), more drugs to treat the side effects of the disease (eg, the cholesterol problem) and still more to treat the side effects of the other drugs. We had to set aside a shelf in the kitchen just for her medicines.

Her health declined quickly, her test results kept getting worse, there was talk of dialysis and transplant waiting lists, then we were told she wasn't a candidate for transplant, as the disease was expected to attack the new kidneys in the same way it attacked her own. It seemed only a matter of time until she reached the charmingly named "End Stage Renal Disease".

And then she turned a corner, her test results stabilised, then began to improve. For 2 years now, we've seen a steady improvement in her condition, and a substantial reduction in her medicaton.

Yesterday, Mrs Druid visited her specialist. Every one of her test results is now back in the 'normal' range, the most complete remission the specialist has ever seen. There is no evidence that the mystery attacker is still present in her system. We've been told we have good reason to hope that Mrs Druid is one of the small percentage who get better and stay better.

I feel like I've been holding my breath for 2 1/2 years, and now I can breathe again.

Congratulations!

A flatterer may say that you are as much responsible for this great news as the medication, but I'm not, so I'll only hint that you could be part of her getting better. [Wink]

I whish you both the best for the future!

The Famous Druid _____There is no way that any of us can feel the way that you do at this moment, nor can sense the fear that must have clouded your house for the last thirty months. The elation in your house must seem like you have won the lottery, You have every reason to Shout For Joy.

TFD,

That must be just about the best news you're ever gonna hear.

I can't even begin to imagine the relief (or the agonies of the last couple of years) that simple message represents..

I for one feel a certain "schnadenfraude" (is that spelt right?) in reverse on this one...

Good for you and Mrs Druid... Enjoy the feeling

Cheers

Thanks guys.

It's kind of strange, we've known for quite some time that Mrs Druids health was improving, but we've also been aware of the difference between 'remission' and 'cured'. So the recent word from the specialist wasn't a dancing in the streets and popping champagne corks surprise (well, actually we did pop a champagne cork) it was more of a big sigh of relief and really relax for the first time in ages. We've gone from cautious optimism to just plain optimism. It feels nice.
