Don't know if this fits the chemical requirement, but as far as TLAs ... what was the topic again? Yup, that's my answer.
FWIW (FLA) I think that TLA is something different in the UK. A TLA is a three letter acronym, beloved by one and all- DNA, TLA, TNA, RNA, MCP, PCP, WTF etc, are all TLA's (except etc which is an abbrev).

TLAs are 3-letter acronyms in the US, too.

Not quite -- it was nitrocellulose, or gun cotton. Looks like fluffy cotton balls, until you heat 'em up or light them. If made properly, they give a nice little fireball with no solid residue.

Funny...the only use I've ever seen for nitrocellulose was membranes to stick nucelic acids too.

Biochemistry is far too tame.

I once discovered a box of nitrocellulose centrifuge tubes... Never could figure out why they were made from that. They burned nicely.

Man oh man...I used to work with guys like that in my classes...like, before I graduated a year ago...and went into the real world...where there are still jackasses like that.
I thought I'd be rid of em, but nooo...
It's not getting better, guys are guys, and hell. Even some girls are like that...
(A certain soap project comes to mind...but I digress)..
It's sad, but true.

I don't know about having acid poured on me.

I vaguely remember the time I had acid dropped on me, though.

Whoa! Lucy, watch those diamonds in the sky!

Sorry, flashback. Chasing an Iron Butterfly.

The acid I worked with must have been more concentrated. I generaly used some 50% stuff that I had to dilute way down to get the propper concentration for my labs. Nasty stuff that... and stink boy did it ever.
