Well it's not really envy of a pc per se, but the offical ship date of doom 3 has been announced. The only problem being that I don't have a PC to run it on, and the mac ship date is "when it's done". Of course, that is irrelevant because there is no way my 450MHz G4 will cope. Anyway, I reckon it is about time for an upgrade (I was pushed into this machine with the release of quake 3).

Anyne care to make any guesses about whether I'll be able to run doom3 on an emac? That's really all I can afford- And I'm banking on selling my curent box at the same value as a new emac costs!

The screen shots look pretty impressive and graphically intense.

Their web site has system requirement as: TBA

Might be time to buy a new PC [ohwell]

/me looks at his P4 1.4 with 256M RAM and a GF4MX420 and thinks "Hmm, don't think thats gonna happen"

At least I can run UT2004 (with everything turned down). Tactical Ops for the original UT is a lot of fun, too.

PC specs released here.

A 1.5-gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 chip or AMD Athlon 1500.
384 megabytes of memory.
Two gigabytes of hard drive space.
An nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card or better; or an ATI Technologies 8500 or better.

Yay! Only one of my systems can cut it.

Question of the day though, is whether or not they'll release a Linux version.

id's record has been quite good in this regard, Quake3, RtCW & RtCW:ET all had Linux clients so hopefully it's a matter of when... not if.

And if not, there's always another option.

There is a linux version planned, but only for download- no CD's. I believe it is going to be out fairly quickly.
