Wow... it's like all my favourite things came together and made a little internet baby. [Happytears]

I've always been upset at Firefly's cancellation, but then a bit nonplussed that Dollhouse, Whedon's new series was headed straight for the same channel, and possibly the same fate. I'm very pleased to see he's exploring more independent publishing routes with this awesome new project.

And it's got Mal in! And the lady from The Guild! And the guy from The Big Bang Theory! Thank you so much for the link!

That was a very good way to spend four bucks.

(I ended up buying it from iTunes, because I know I will want to watch it again later.)

Agreed. When the credits started going I yelled at the computer, "No! There are two minutes left! They're not two minutes of credits, you're going to tell me what happened next!!!"

I'll go against the flow. I find this is a perfect ending. At least for a season 1. If there is a second season, great, but I am satisfied with this. We just witnessed how an average evil guy turns into a real bad evil one. Small league to big league: the achievement of his dreams came with a price he may not have been ready to pay, but it is this price that made him become the real thing. (Trying not to spoil too much since it's available till midnight.)

Of course I want to know if Captain Hammer Corporate Tools will bounce back, if Dr. Horrible still has a heart, but somehow, the rest of the story is known: it's been told countless times in super-hero stories.

OK: major spoiler ahead - if you intend to see it but haven't yet, stop right here!

I find it rather fitting that it is because Dr. Horrible hesitated to kill Captain Hammer that Penny died. Even after his little song (my preferred one!) about a brand new day ("all the birds are singing that you're gonna die"!), he still had enough humanity in him to care about his nemesis' life. Now he doesn't - about anyone's. Poor Billy! Poor Australia! (Or is it poor world?)

Though when Captain Hammer appeared my first thought was "Mal???"

I clinked on this link just in time to watch the entire series, and I have to admit that this was a wonderful piece of art that I witnessed. Who know they had so much talent like that? All around, amazing.

Note, this is a continuation of stereo's spoiler.

Actually, I agree that the ending is appropriate, but we do get a glimpse at the future through the fact that it was Dr. Horrible singing the song, and then it was Billy who finished it. I thought that was a good final touch to a moving piece.

Yes, I totally agree. It was a "I now have the world at my feet, but inside, I feel empty" ending.

And as it's now over (although I don't know if it's still available on iTunes or not), I can say that there are a few moments that I found really REALLY well done. When Billy sings "the evil in me is rising" and he backs off in the shadows - great. "Your world is slipping": he has this move that totally support his words. Just before the "It's a brand new day" song, his evil smile showing up... perfect! Oh, and Moist who can't keep hold of the money bags - hilarious! And the "I don't want these" when Billy tries to leave quickly before Captain Hammer arrives.

Also, I like how the final song uses many of the earlier musical themes. Especially how the "Brand new day" theme now has some sound distortion, kinda screeching-like: as to say that he reached his goal - a brand new day indeed - but not quite in the way he expected/wanted.

I also like the fact that the "good guy" is actually a total asshole. And at the end, when he finally realizes what pain is, we get the image that he really was just a typical bully who was on the "good" side to have people's admiration.

My only criticism would be that after Dr. Horrible's failed heist, he says that Captain Hammer threw a car at his head - yet we only see a small bruise and his eye is half-closed: shouldn't there be more that than? I mean - it was a car, not a baseball! [Roll Eyes]

Overall, a great piece of art. [Applause] When is season 2? [Big Grin]

(Can you say I really, really liked it, and watched it many times already? [crazy] )

I was very disappointed with the ending.

While I agree with Stereo that Act 3 was a fine illustration of how an average evil guy turns into a real bad evil one, if felt it betrayed the spirit of the first two acts.

Act three would have been perfect for a real comic book, (Lex Luther and many other comic book villains have similar heartbreaking origins or backstories), however it seemed from the start that this series was a light-hearted, fun-loving parody of the medium. The ending seemed to me to be a cheap shot for Drama's sake.

Now I'm no one to shy away from killing a character. I thought the death of Wash in Serenity was perfect, and I did it myself with the SysAdmin, and if we ever finish AY2K, there's a heartbreak in there too. But I digress. [Razz]

I was left with a sad and horrible feeling at the end of the series, which, sure, is an indication that Whedon succeeded in getting me to care about his characters, but by wrapping up a super sweet, candy-coated package of parody and comedy with the tragedy, I felt duped and disappointed, not challenged.

The real horse was too goofy for me too. [Roll Eyes]

I thought the part where Captain Hammer is seen sobbing on a shrink's couch while Dr. Horrible is being evil was a nice touch. And I for one got a kick out of Bad Horse, the Thoroughbred of Sin, being a horse. Moist bemoaning his double-date with Bait and Switch was also kind of cute. It was touches like that that sort of bad it clear that this was a world where superheroes and ordinary people coexist to a point where no one bats an eye if their laundry buddy builds death rays or what have you.
