One word... WOW.

I saw "Casino Royale" last night and I have to enthusiastically recommend the movie. I was prepared not to like Craig as Bond, but it dawned on me during the movie that any dissonance I was experiencing was not due to him being blond, but because he was someone new in the role. However, he pulled it off, and I have to say, made the role his. They can't film Craig's next two Bond movies fast enough for me (that's what he's already signed for).

I will say that the movie is darker. If you've read any of the Ian Fleming novels (I have) and wished that Bond's movie characterizations were closer to the books, this is the movie for you. There are several tips of the hat to long time fans to keep them happy, but they are intelligently done and don't pander. In fact, one caught me so much by surprise, I may give up being such a spoiler ho when it comes to movies. Since I didn't know it was coming, it made the movie for me.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but i love james bond movies just because it has that kind of charm which has lasted for 21 films. James bond is that time old classic which can be enjoyed by everyone no matter what age.

w00t! Thanks for the tip off, Grey_girl! I was afraid it was going to suck. =P Now maybe I'll actually go see it in the theaters. [Wink] Too bad I passed up a lecture/free screening offer from APC - I just realized now how November has absolutely flown by...and I really need to get my car inspected soon. :-/

Geat movie, I really dug the darker tone and all around ass kickin. I also greatly enjoyed the incredibly racially steriotipical chase scene at the begenning. I thought it was hilarriouse that Bond couldnt even jump over the little fence at the begenning.

Movie was good, but what was up with the silly intro with Bond shooting hearts out of his gun? Made it seem like it was going to be a sissy movie [Razz]

Alas, I had to take Mrs. Club and the Clublets to see Happy Feet today, so no Casino Royale for me yet. Not that Happy Feet was bad, mind you. Surprisingly more dramatic and less funny than I would have expected from a computer animated flick. I was distressed by the lack of funny until I noticed the storyline was actually pretty good.

Ahem.

Anyway, all is not lost. Thanks to Spike TV's Thanksgiving Bond Blowout I have convinced both Clublets that James Bond is well worth watching. Our youngest was a bit confused by the carousel of actors, and insists she only likes Pierce Brosnan as 007 (Die Another Day was the first we watched), but that didn't prevent her from watching another one every night.

I must have missed out on the JB gene, when I'm forced to watch a Bond flick, I'm sitting there thinking "this is stupid" the whole way through.

I liked the movie but not the Bond. The action was good but James Bonds is supposed to be suave, Not a tough jerk as most action heros are today. I think this movie fits more in the XXX series than the Bond Series. That being said, I like XXX as well.

Ah, but you miss the point of the movie. We're seeing the beginning of Bond, before he's the smooth, suave, charmer whose only concern is how his martini is prepared. As many critics have commented, the Bond franchise was dangerously close to becoming self-parody, and this look at Bond's roots was exactly the breath of fresh air the series needed.

I also find it horrific that you compare this to the XXX series... [Confused] [Eek!] [shake head]

I've been told my age has been showing but when you are comparing XXX with James Bond then yeah.

I don't watch james bond movies just because of the action or just because of the cool gadgets or just because of the women i watch it because it has all that and more. It is one of those classic series which has everything in one movie and does it with style.

My point is this movie didn't have the cool gadgets and style, It just had the action. I hate to say it but even Rodger Moore was a better Bond.

I think we're comparing apples and oranges. There's the Bond of the movies, and the Bond as originally written. The Bond portrayed by Roger Moore has no resemblance to the Bond in Ian Fleming's novels and short stories other than in name. To a Bond purist, Moore was one of the worst. That same fan (yeah, me, admittedly), would think Craig was one of, if not, the best Bond yet.

Just a different opinion, based on a different frame of reference, that's all...

I'm just trying to work out if I can go to watch the movie in work time, and claim it's work related. Hey, I'm testing a Baccarat system, and it's JB's favourite casino game, that's got to be related [Wink]

Went and saw it last weekend.

Story was great. One of the better storylines for bond movies. Has a few minor plot lines that are confusing, one being that M says that James has just been promoted to 007. Whats with that? Ending was a bit confusing how they kept jumping around every 30 seconds with the plot, but it was cool overall.

Personally I dont like the new Bond, hes too cold for me as a character. And they took out a lot of the "typical" Bond characteristics out the movie as well. Fight scenes could have been a bit better as well. Overall though it was a decent movie, and if you're a Bond fan, go see it.

So, Mr Bond likes getting his balls scratched and apparently is unable to draw the line between CPR and necrophilia. Interesting...

It wasn't even good CPR. In fact, it was probably the worst movie CPR I've ever seen. But the rest was good.

I could tell just by looking that the parts around Casino Royale were not shot in Montenegro. However, I could have sworn up and down that the coastline shots were. The hospital Bond ended up in looked like it was shot on an island in Kotor Bay. The final scene also looked like Kotor Bay. But the end credits didn't list Montenegro as a location. [Confused]
