Do you mean because of this particular case? Or more nuts than usual?

Yes.

Ironically enough, it's probably not the answer you're looking for, but I'm quite surprised that in *Virginia,* they'd take toy guns as seriously as this. WTF?

FFS, I'm no fan of guns, but this is a case of kids playing outside, no?

The kid who shot himself while showing his friend an illegal handgun (no clip, but there was a round in the chamber) around these parts...that gives me pause. Kids playing with fake guns...not great, but eh... Kids playing with real guns...double-plus-ungood.

Not as crazy as the article makes it sound.

First, calling Airsoft guns toys makes them sound harmless, but that isn't quite true.

Second, anyone who clicks that link should should be glad it's for bruises and not "airsoft eye damage."

Third, the kid may not have been at the bus stop, but he was shooting other kids who were. The school has every right to become involved when someone is actively harming students waiting for the bus. Would the mother have preferred the police be called and assault charges filed? I think that would be more appropriate, to be honest.

I will admit that I am not following this story very closely. The articles I have read mention them using targets and being in their own yards. I haven't seen one mention that they were shooting the pellets at other kids.

It takes a different tone if they were shooting those things at other kids. While back in the day I did get involved in the stupidity of the "one pump" bb gun shootouts and such, I am very hard pressed to be even slightly understanding if they were shooting at kids that were not part of the same game. Though I still question the intelligence of playing the game in the first place.

Well, consider this; how would the school know about a kid in his own yard, 70 yards away, firing at targets? The facts in most of the news stories don't add up because they're leaving things out.

A story about a kid getting in trouble for shooting at other students isn't nearly as likely to be passed around and linked to, so it's not much of a surprise that the better-written stories aren't at the top of a search. Who needs facts when it's so much easier to rely on tabloid journalism and social media to get pageviews and drive up your ad revenue?

Don't get me wrong. Zero tolerance policies are stupid beyond belief (example), but this case isn't really a good one to use as argument against those policies.

C.S. & G.S. After further review. The Principle has several students that were struck by pellets at or near the Bus Stop. At this point it no longer an issue about play "in our own yard". But it could be assault. They may have gotten of with only a wrist slap.

The school was doing what it should.
