Maybe not.

Actually, if you take that to its paranoid conclusion, it says that eavesdropping could be done, so calls on your mobile to your bank could be heard, security questions and all.

My school of thought it to use a trusted computer on a trusted network. I also think phone calls are alright, but I don't wear a tinfoil hat. (And I have a CDMA phone - no SIM!)

I was introduced to phone banking by a credit union that had a menu driven auto teller. 1: Balances 2 deposits 3: transfer money etc. No speaking required, all done from the keypad. I would take my cell phone into the press room, and "Call Freda" I really doubt anyone over heard.

With many people motivated by greed, and the courts and police taking a soft approach to data thieves. Some one with a packet sniffer can watch the traffic on a network, or record the traffic during the store open hours, and peruse the streams at off hours. Once you cross international boundaries prosecuting the thief is almost never done. The police just lack the level of knowledge needed to prosecute the crime. I know that they are out there, I keep getting info about attempts in my router logs. I do not open anything from strangers and even some people I know because of their habits. So D-man when it involes my money I put on my Helmet.

I am the only person I know apart from toddlers and those in nursing homes that does not own a cell phone of any kind. Someone I worked with a few years back didn't believe me. She was convinced I was joking. A person in the 21st century without a cellphone did not gel with her view of reality. Oh well.

Honestly, I'd just hate to carry the thing around.

I know about 3 people in the world who don't have them. :/ (I haven't verified that fact for two of them recently, and I suspect at least one got a mobile for work.)

I'm not terribly interested in smartphones, but I do consider a cell phone to be a handy thing. I expect you (ewomack) have a home phone (landline) and as I see it, my personal cellphone is simply a handier version of this. My work phone is an entirely different story, and 'tis something I'd just assume toss off a bridge. [Frown]
