I did not know that, but, according to Glenn Beck, my support of Christian social justice issues apparently makes me an oddly self-hating combination.

I guess that explains why I have a strange urge to put myself in a concentration camp, though.

(While my initial gut reaction was outrage, I think I'll laugh about it instead. How ridiculous is it that Beck has simultaneously shown complete ignorance of current religion and modern history at the same time?)

It is too bad the Beck is not treated as he is. A shock jock and inciter.

Instead they treat him as if he is a viable and intelligent reporter.

Not sure who to be more irritated at.

Beck for saying the crap

People for believing the crap

or the news for constantly repeating the crap.

sigh...

I love that trick the wingnuts have of deliberately conflating Nazism with Communism. It puts up a sign over any subsequent conversation that says "Abandon reason all ye who enter here"

The guy admits to changing churches to get laid, so it's hardly surprising he'd change churches to avoid that namby-pamby liberal nonsense that JC promoted.

I am relieved that the Dems seem to have stopped pretending there is any hope of that post partisan nonsense coming to pass, and are finally able to speak their minds. It must have been so difficult pretending that there are within the Republican Party some sane reasonable grown adults.

Exactly. The association sounds very plausible and scary on a surface level to those ignorant of the history and beliefs of those groups, but even a little actual knowledge renders it completely ridiculous. As a result, I've decided to give an absurd fictional association and absurd fictional name: the "Communazi." I think it's going to be my new term for that form of straw-man/guilt-by-association tactic.

I wonder if Beck has figured out that Creedence Clearwater Revival's Fortunate Son isn't too patriotic either, yet?

It seems some of the wingnuts have come to the same conclusion about Thomas Jefferson

Ridiculous, although I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Jefferson was a complicated, sometimes almost contradictory, person. There are many who would much rather believe the heroic mythology surrounding the USA's founding fathers rather than look at anything that might complicate their assumptions regarding the origins of the country.

Have you ever noticed that almost everyone who believes in "American exceptionalism" seems to be well below average intelligence?

Well, he was the principle author of the Declaration of Independence, and a staunch advocate of the separation of church and state, so obviously todays 'patriots' have to write him out of the history books.

Glen Beck is the best thing that has happened to American politics in years. He is so far wrong that even people who begin by agreeing with him end up having to question their reasoning and principles. When people have to say, "Wait a minute, that's NOT what I think", then you start having rational discourse.

Well my friend, I tried to watch the linked video, got 30 seconds into it, but found it too offensive to view. Pity, I have some nieces & nephews in texas. I fear they will be too illiterate once out of high school to qualify for enterance into any average college elsewhere. Then again they all think george w bush was a great leader. Now that's real brain washing for you!
