Cool. And totally understandable. I'm just a year older than President(-elect) Obama and I was an Elvis Costello fan back in my formative high-school years. I would totally invite him to play at a party of mine if I had the clout to make that happen. Who cares if he's British living in Canada. Like Snaggy said, it's all about the peace, love and understanding.

Cool!

Mind you, I find the last sentence pretty curious:
Washington has issued an emergency bill that will allow restaurants with liquor licences to serve food and alcohol 24 hours a day from Jan. 17 through Jan. 21.

Um...yeah...EMERGENCY: People need to drink at ALL HOURS during the inauguration!! Red Alert, etc.!! Not trying to be overly Puritanical or anything but I think there's /something/ to be said for maintaining some degree of sobriety, no?

dman - I assume that emergency bills are simply quicker to put into effect.

And this emergency bill will allow people to maintain some degree of sobriety 24 hours a day......which is what you want, yes? [Wink]

Because people can't just get drunk at home, or in a hotel room. [Razz]

Oh, I don't dispute any of the above...it's just that I thought that laws about serving alcohol in public establishments were meant to keep places from having a sea of [some very angry, some very happy] drunk people. [Razz] I don't entirely get why alcohol needs to be served at 8 AM in the Capitol...

most alcohol laws were designed out of the temperance movement. So while some states have opened them up to be a bit more forgiving since the days of prohibition, there are many states where the laws are still quite strict. Places such as Utah...

/me is wishing he could get some beer that wasn't watered down from somewhere other than the state sponsored liquor store...

dman – Being the Capitol, I can't understand why anyone would /not/ be drinking at 8 am. [evil]
