It's official: Paris Hilton has served more jail time at the hands of an overzealous judge, seen more of the inside of a jail cell, eaten more prison food than Lewis Libby ever will.

Umm... you all are aware that, despite what the linked article says, it was Richard Armitage who leaked Valerie Plame's identity and not Libby?
Libby lied to the grand jury and took steps to impede their investigation. Those are the felonies that he was convicted of (and should have served time for), but he wasn't the one who committed treason.

Perjuring himself to cover-up for the traitor counts as treason in my book.
If he'd done the same to protect a foreign spy, he'd be looking at 20 years in a federal prison. The only reason the 3-year penalty is 'too harsh' is because he was doing GWB's bidding.

Of course Bush commuted Libby's sentence. The partisan nature of his administration means that looking after your own will always be more important than intellectual liberal ideas like the rule of law, (a notion he has had scant respect for in the past). Loyalty (and only to his own) is about the only virtue they practice. In that respect the organisation they resemble most is the Mafia.
