Charges are being sought in Germany against Donald Rumsfeld for War Crimes.

Among the documents filed is a written statement by former General Janet Karpinski, the Commandant of the prison during the atrocities, that states she was just following orders.

Germany's laws, as a result of the atrocities of WWII and the trials that resulted afterwards, are written so any war crime committed anywhere may be tried there.

It certainly has nothing to do with the fact that he's guilty of them. Oh heavens no...let's not let facts get in the way. :-/

Something like this was bound to happen, after GWB granted everyone concerned with the conduct of the Iraq war immunity from prosecution, though of course it is fairly meaningless unless Rumsfeld wants to visit Germany.

This is possibly the first time in my life that I can honestly say I'm proud of my country ...
