Hi! First of all, I apologise for any language errors or mistakes. English is not my mother tongue and although I am studying English at the moment, at a university, I am by no means perfect. [Wink]

I'm a geekess from Sweden, 33 years of age, who just recently decided that it was time to start looking for other geeks to socialise with.
Not that I haven't socialised with geeks (and non-geeks) before, I just thought I would take a more direct approach by Googling. [Smile]
And I found this site! Awesome, it seems. [Smile]

I don't know what to say about myself. We Swedes are generally sort of private and not used to talking about ourselves...but I'm not a "general" Swede so I'm trying here! [Wink]

I love TV and movies, books and music. I am a complete language geek and can talk about linguistics for days! I am by no means an expert though, merely an amateur linguist. [Smile]
I have started studying about 10 - 12 languages but the only ones I am somewhat fluent in are English and Swedish Signlanguage. My French and German really need more practise but I can understand and read more than I can speak and that goes with all the languages.
The Celtic languages are my special interest and I intend to study more of them, especially Scottish Gaelic which I love to bits.

Yeah, you can see why I'm a geek. [Wink]

I am not so much a computer/tech geek as more of a language geek and as a person, if you know what I mean.
I love all the stuff that most geeks love. Computer games, Roleplaying games, science fiction, fantasy etc.

What else about me? I am single, have a dog, love music, nature, men with glasses, sushi, high quality chocolate (it has to contain at least 45% cocoa), I'm not religious as in belonging to any religion but I see myself as a spiritual being and I'm very fascinated by mythology and religions.

I hope to get to know new people here, practise my English and just have fun! [Smile]

Hello Freja (I might get it wrong once in a while and write Freya, as it's the spelling I'm used to, so apologies in advance),

I'm not an English-first language either, but your English seems excellent, so don't worry about it. As for pacticing French and German, you'll have a couple of people to help you.

So welcome, the fridge is in the back and should be full of leftovers, there's coffee too if you're a coffee person, tea if you prefer, and if you poke the right person, they may tell you where the better stuff is hidden!

Heya, Freja! Howdy and welcome to GC Forums. -

Thank you for the excellent introduction. It is nice to see that you are interested in Celtic language(s).

Tr gan teanga, tr gan anam.

Edit:
And this music from Navan is in both Irish and Scottish Gaelic with a bit of Welsh thrown in.

Hello Freja. Welcome

Just some advise, ignore the offers of the prols here if they offer to help you with anything regarding becoming a cunning linguist.

Other than that, you said you were into movies. What do you think of the director Lukas Moodysson? (i'm just making smalltalk as he is the only swedish director or actor that I can think of off hand. )

Welcome freja42 [Smile]

I hope you enjoy your time here, don't worry about your English it's fine.

One thing to consider.....the declaration that you are a 33 year old, Swedish, single, female geek could raise a few eyebrows around here [Wink]

Anyway - have fun and join in the topics as often as you like. [Smile]

Thanks for the welcome and the compliment! [Smile]

And lol. I am quite aware that female geeks are often appreciated by their male counterparts...and to be honest, after a longer period of trying to fit in and be a "normal" girl, I have to accept who I am and that I want to be with geeks. [Smile]

Also, I don't mind any guys hitting on me. [Wink]
I can handle it if it's not appreciated and I don't mind the attention. [Wink]

Nono, everything above 45% is good. [Wink] I can eat 75%-85% if I haven't eaten anything sugary for a while. My tastebuds gets destroyed by too much sugar...

Yes, I think I will check this place out. It seems like a good place.
The only worry is that I'm too old...but I'll behave like a 17 year old so you'll soon forget I'm 33. [Wink]

Wow, I am impressed you know of him! [Big Grin]
I actually like him a lot, he's one of the few Swedish directors that don't take themselves so seriously.
I often feel sad when I think of the state of creativity in Sweden. Most culture that is made is way too serious and pretentious and is for the elite. If you can understand it, it's not culture. [Razz]
Scifi and fantasy, for instance, has never been accepted as something adults can be interested in.

No, there's nothing to be nervous about. Some people just happen to believe that I hit on all the n00b ch1x, but it's just not true. Of course if you don't mind it... [Wink]

Anyway, welcome, freja. You sound like you'll fit right in around here. I do believe there are a few other language geeks hanging around, as well as musical geeks.
