I kind of think of myself as an internet nomad. I've wandered around a lot of places on the net, and this is definitely one of the best forums I've seen. (wish I could at least pick a very small custom avatar without paying, but it's a small price to pay, and I can see the logic) Been popping in every now and then for a while, and I've always gotten a kick out of reading the threads, so I decided it's time to join. (the fact that some female geeks are regulars had nothing to do with it whatsoever [Wink] )

OK, now for the self-centered part:

I'm Californian, born and raised, though I've spent very little time living near the coast. I prefer the mountains anyway, and I wouldn't want to get a very un-geeky tan at the beach. [Wink]

I'm 27 now, and live in Fresno. It's an odd city, and could probably benefit from an increased geek population, but the people are OK, overall, and the mountains are nearby.

I have a bachelor's degree in Biblical & Religious Studies and Philosophy, and have put in one year towards an M.Div, but I've decided to take some time before finishing that. As you can probably tell by my choices, I do enjoy contemplating deep thoughts, and I have an opinion on almost everything.

I currently work in the office for a facilities department, where, being the sole geek, I am generally handed anything technological first so I can help the rest figure it out. I also handle the intranet website and the Filemaker Pro databases.

Overall, I strive to be an all-around geek, rather than a specialist. As a result, I often suffer from not really being an expert in any one area, though.

Oh, and I tend to be an introvert, even in written format, so it is doubtful you will see a lot of me, even when I'm around a lot. I'm opinionated, but I try not to let it get out of control.

This has gotten way too long-winded for me. Nice being able to count myself a member of something as un-cool as Geek Forums. [Big Grin]

Howdy Sxeptomaniac. Welcome to the forums.

Let's see... you describe yourself as an opinionated introvert who seems to be planning on finishing his M.Div. at some point in the future. That makes me wonder where you might be heading eventually.

Anyhow, pull up a chair, share some of your opinions and enjoy your time among us. [Wink]

I don't know what I was thinking... it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Wow thats really awsome! [Big Grin] I admire philosophers actually, since I once attemped to do an essay where it required a philosopher's brain. Ugh that did my head in alright.

But what does an M.Div mean? Sorry, I am not too familiar with things like this.

But anyway, welcome. Maybe these forums will help cure your introvert-ness. [Wink]

M. Div. == Masters in Divinity. It's like a Masters in Science, except for religious study. i.e. not a degree you'll likely find me studying for. [Razz]

Welcome, person whose name I can't spell from memory. [Smile]

Can't say for sure, but I've been thinking about chaplaincy eventually, possibly at a hospital.

Hello and welks galore!

I'm currently reading Copleston's History of Philosophy. I'm somewhere around Aristotle, but I can't wait to get to Vol II on Medieval philosophy.

I have a philosophy BA, but my program never touched on the medieval - I think only 1-2 classes were even offered.

Ecce homo!

History of Philosophy is pretty fascinating. I haven't read Copleston yet, but it sounds like something I'll need to add to my Amazon wish list.

I have noticed that you have to watch what you say around here, or you might end up crucified. [Wink]

ha!

I like this av! I'm asking snaggy to just retire it. It is permanently ingrained in all your poor heads [Big Grin] . It's also how I locate my own last posts on the board.
