Has anyone else noticed that since about 2 months instead of new articles (in CNN, NYT, ect. ) refering to the Higgs boson as, well, a boson or any of the other scientifically appropriate names, they have been calling it a "god particle".
I don't get this at all. Why would a particle that proves teh standard model be a god particle? because its godly because it has been hard to find ( there but no proof?, like god?)
this sort of annoys me, it is like they are trying to puch a christian-scientist conflict in any way possible.

Understanding what gives particles mass is commonly believed to be the the key to achieving a "whole new level " of understanding of the universe - a godlike degree of wisdom, if you will.
This is nothing to do with any "christian-scientist conflict" - please feel free to pick any god you want... Kali might be an appropriate choice, particularly in her aspect as Bhavatarini (literally "redeemer of the universe").
